Just got back from my drive up to queensland yesterday, left last tuesday and drove from melbourne to beerwah (near maroochydore) and made stops in newcastle and port stephens along the way, saw some great sights and gave the VY S pack a good stretch of its legs out on the open road, unfortunately it ate about 50,000 bugs across the front of it but other than that not a SINGLE! issue the whole drive, car has now done 154,000k's and she drove like new the entire trip, not a single flat tire or overheating or anything along those lines, had the air con going for a vast majority of the trip and still got pretty amazing fuel economy from my gas system, the whole trip i think we spent about 240 dollars on gas and theres no way this trip would have been on the cards if i was running petrol, if anybody else is on gas, i would recommend this kind of trip as it was alot of fun!, stopped off on the gold coast and went to wet n wild and dreamworld aswell!!, alot of driving in a week but if you"ve never done it...you should! the people i was driving up there with had to pry me out of my drivers seat in order to rotate the driving haha

My wife wants to do almost the exact same trip in a couple weeks time, she only has 5 days off but just wants to see some of Australia since she never has before. Wont be on gas but should work out about the same cost in the Fiesta, about 50 bucks a tank and 700-800ks from each tank
sounds good mate, we had 3 of us in the car the whole time so it only ended up costing me about 80 bucks to get to brissy and back, not bad huh?, gas isnt great for long distance ill admit, ULP fares much better and you get way further on a tank, my gas tank is only 50 litres, and for some reason the gas pump nozzles in NSW and QLD are way chunkier and didnt always fit into where I connect to fill up, it would get caught on a small plate with the gas tank information on it. frustrating but not a huge problem, all of the independant stations and some of the bigger chains still had the victoria style nozzles but if you do go up that way be wary of the fact that if you run on gas you may have to search around a couple of times for the right style to be able to fill up

What made you drive all the way to Beerwah?![]()
yeah why beerwah? i live just north of there i cant justify a drive from melbourne to beerwah?? maybe noosa haha
Thats not bad 4500km, u must love driving.
last year June from memory, i drove from Adelaide to Alice Springs 1600km's then drove around for 1-2 days, then straight back home another 1600km's, all up i think it was 3300-3400km's round trip approx $800, but i was paying nearly $2 a litre for Premium, and i was towing a car trailer with the race car the entire trip, plus passengers and spares, so i was loaded. The car went awesome aswell (it must be a commodore thing), besides the 100's of Kangeroos, 10 cows, 50 sheep, and countless of Aboriginies that i almost collected.
I can understand anyone driving FROM Victoria TO Queensland , but why would you go back ????
Not that we need more any more up here anyway ... !!

i drove up to see my girlfriend who was volunteering at australia zoo, to anybody thinking about a similar trip, I would recommend going up the newell instead, it might sound like a good idea going up the coast, but 90% of the "coastal driving" you cant even see the ocean any way and you"ll get a nice long view of about 15 different roadwork sites and the fun of doing 40-60-80 through 110 zones for long periods of time, i was told there were roadworks but i didnt expect it to be that bad, NSW needs to get their act together, the road from melbourne to sydney is amazing compared to the nightmare of the pacific highway.

Hi Steve
Well, I did warn you about the roadworks.
Just did a very similar trip, even went to Australia Zoo last week and stayed at Marcoola, just north of Maroochy. Very relaxed trip up the New England from the NSW Central Coast, and returned via the Pacific to see what progress has been made on the work around Ballina and Moorland/Kew.
Like you, amazing economy but on E10, not LPG. Total trip just under 3000k's, and also a perfect run.
