hey guys,
there this noise that happens on my ute when i go over a pretty big bump it bangs.
sorta sounds like the suspensions bottoming out, got any ideas on anything i can look for?
cars done 150000, only owned it for about 6 months. standard springs and shocks and standard wheels (16's).
if it more one side then the other, it comes more from the passenger side
looking at getting 18's and lowering it a bit and id like to get this sorted first
cheers guys
It's not the spare wheel is it ?
If it has a towbar with the square tongue fitting,is it tight in the tow bar?
Remove the rear shocks and take it for a test drive.
Check the rear muffler isn't hitting the body by pushing it up and sideways sharply and listening for the noise.
Make sure all bolts and nuts are tight.
1. You need to jack up the car and remove the rear wheels and carefully check the suspension on each side.\
2. Also check exhaust system for abnormal movement. It is possible the noise is coming from the exhaust system bouncing around excessively due to retention problems and hitting the chassis and/or other underside components.
Suspension issues are probably more likely though and to begin with you probably have shocks that have completely had it and the body is bouncing around freely on the springs. A bounce test while the car is stationary will give you a good indication of how good or bad the shocks are.
Have you gotten an exhaust put on lately? That's what mine used to do.
nah mate factory exhaust, i'll check these things and let yars know
cheers
had a look and it seems the rear muffler was hitting.
all because of the bush that stops it from going upwards, theres two hangers, then a donut the gets hit by a bit of flat bar and stops the muffler from hitting the chassis.
well this donut thingi had moved to far up and wasnt doing anything, moved it back so it does its job and hopefully when i drive it tommorro she's fine
cheers fellars
