2 Weeks ago my tophose cracked at the engine end and i had to trim the hose and reconnect it. I replaced all the coolant with water, thinking i could get a new tophose within the next few weeks and then refill it with coolant when i installed the new hoses.
When i was driving to work on friday My engine overheated bigtime. I imidiately turned off the engine and pulled over (in doing so i cut off a cyclist). There was water comin out of the radiator and the tophose looked like it had been weaping water ever since i reconnected it.
I had to get my mechanic to pick it up and go straight to work, i havent been quoted a price yet.
Has anyone had this problem? How much would i be looking at to get the radiator and hoses replaced?

VY V6s had a bad batch of radiators from the factory. The plastic radiator tanks were not made correctly. Some let go with low KMs,other have heaps of KMs before they leak.
Most were replaced under the warranty period, but there are still VYs running original radiators out there.
I advise people who have VYs with original radiators to replace them, they can let go at any time without warning.
When i bought my VY S Ute i managed to pop the radiator 2 days after picking up from the lot, it was replaced under the warranty from the yard but i believe i was quoted by my own mechanic about $280 for the radiator itself, so the hoses shouldn't be much more on top as well as the cost of coolant, maybe $60 more? needless to say i was a very cranky customer! it's a quick fix though, unclips very easily so they wont have the car for anymore then a day if they aren't backed up.
I just got it back, cost me 600, but that was radiator hoses, a bunch of other hoses a new radiator and coolant, and a replaced fuel line. so wasnt too bad. It should be covererd by my warranty

when factoring in items and labour for the install it seems like it's not a bad price fingers crossed on it being covered by warranty!
livin' the low life.
My first VY split the raddy with about 40,000 on the clock. Luckily was covered under warranty. It had been sitting a long time when I bought it and I was told that because of this fact, the seals on the plastic sides had dried out and shrunk. I now have another VY with 115,000 on the clock and no rad issues yet, touch wood!
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
they'll come vymad... they'll come.
