Cool Exhaust Upgrading for a Dummy

Ok, so im the dummy. I know a little about tech and such but when it comes to the mechanical side of a car i have the knowledge of a 120 year old grandma who drives a horse and cart.

I want to spend a little bit of money to get my 04 v6 VY Calais to sound nice without removing any power or anything. Can anyone suggest a way to make it sound nice without breaking the bank. I wanna save some money to dump it on VE supersports.

Any help would be great fellas.

either get a single 2.5 inch catback or a dual pipe 2.25 inch catback, both should give a reasonable tone, expect to pay anywhere from $350 to $1000.
brands: xforce, lukey, berkley, redback and a few others are good, do a search in JC's for exhaust threads

ALSO, if anyone tells u to drill a hole/s in your exhaust to "make it sound better", DONT do it

mate your best bet is to speak to Not_An_Abba_Fan as he's the bloke who can sort you out best here, should look at a no larger than a 2.5" Catback system, ask him about a set of extractors if you want as he does them at a very reasonable price, and budget a few hundred to get it fitted up if you dont know what your doing or cant be assed to do the extractors should you choose to get some!

or ya can just go cheap and get out the grinder and welder and hack off the rear muffler, it wont be as good as getting a whole system, but if its just the tone you want this is possible, but i would recommend getting some kinda catback system, and extractors if you want some extra performance.. just dont chop off the cat coverter as thats illegal if ya didnt already know!! heh, good luck mate

lol. thanks for the insight lads. any of you know whereabouts a decent place is in melbourne to get the extractors and exhaust done at a reasonable price? is it an idea to maybe get the stuff off ebay and get someone to put em in for me? or better to go to a mechanic or sumthin?

Dunno bout melb, im in adelaide, but with the ebay buy, yes ebay can be good as long as you buy a product from an actual company or "powerseller" with a good rep and all good feedback, im sure most people can vouch that ebay is good, but there are always the odd people who have had trouble with it. But if u want ridgy didge rock solid warranties etc just go with a proper exhaust mechanic.

what are the differences in performance and sound when going for a single or dual pipe? what im trying to say is if i go for a dual pipe am i gonna lower my performance? my vy 6 s2 calais hasnt got the biggest set of nuts as it is so taking away more performance would make me feel like im driving a heavy excel - and i dont sure as hell dont want that. lol.

Safest choice for you sounds like a 2.5" catback, it will be less restrictive than the stock one, which will make it a bit more powerful.
ivre got one on me berlina and it sounds great.
