    Default The new boy!!

Hey guys! My name's Steve. New to the site, and just recently bought myself an awesome ride!!
Not to sure how to upload pics just yet but as soon as i figure that one out ill have some up asap!! I bought myself a Black 2003 VY SS manual! she's done 130xxx kms and she's pretty much stock as a rock besides a set of Pacemaker Extractors! I cant explain to you all how excited i am about spending money on my new baby! Iv got a few things id like to do to her but i want to start off with the basics.. (Lowering, stereo, exhaust, rims). Iv decided i want to put VE GTS 20s on her.. stereo i have already bought and needs to be installed. Anyone know where i can get my car lowered properly and where they wont charge me through the roof?

Anyway looking forward to hearing all of your opinions!! will upload pics asap!!

    cheers!

Welcome mate. Im sure you will find all the info you need here. A lot of topics have been asked already so remember to search first.

I've just recently bought an SS too and love it! They are fantastic cars. I'm going through the same thing at the moment spending a bit of money on it getting it just how I want it, just a matter of being patient.

May help if you post up where you are located so you can get some good suspension shop recommendations. If you look up the page a bit, GSL Rallysport do awesome deals on lowering kits.

I think the VE rims are a different fitment so may need to be machined to fit?

The other thing to do once you get the exhaust on is to get a tune, thats probably the best value power mod you can do for the $$

    Cheers

haha good to hear from a fellow poster that has recently bought an SS too!! Whats been done to yours so far?

For the rims i was looking at some replica's.. and even though it isnt the same as the real thing i dont want to be forking out over $3000 on rims!

The first thing im looking at doing is lowering it like i said.. ill definitely have a browse at that GSL Rallysport place you suggested..

as for tuning the car.. where abouts do i go to get that done?? being only 20 years old im not very familier with a lot of places yet!!

thanks again for the reply mate! lookin forward to seeing how your car comes along!!

    cheers

Welcome mate. Regarding lowering. Any suspension place can do it for you, you'll need springs shortened shocks and a camber kit. Shop around and see what people can offer.

Getting your car lowered PROPERLY will cost you a bit more. The lower you go, the harder and possibly more expensive it will be to retain the proper suspension geometry settings.
Don't be a tool and dump it on its arse with ultra lows because it will stuff up your car in many ways.
The rear end of the car sits up a bit for a reason and remember that a full tank of fuel will drop it down a bit as well.

No no definetly not looking to dump it on it's arse.. I'd like it reasonably low so it looks good but yeah not on it's arse scraping every time I change gears on a full tank.. Where would you blokes recommend getting it done? So far I'm leaning towards pedders because they are well known but I'm sure they will sting my pocket like no tomorrow.. Any other recommendations??

Welcome to JC. I went Pedders with my VY SS and I'd recommend them. Kings are too harsh imo. Didn't need new shocks because I didn't go that low. Here's a pic of how mine sits. If you do get Pedders stuff, don't get them to fit them. They're pretty pricey!!!

Bravotwozero - your car looks awesome mate! i was originally looking for a silver SS to start with but couldnt find any good ones and came across my black one now which was too good not to buy haha bit hard to keep clean though hence why i wanted silver! i really like how yours is sitting.. thats exactly what im looking to do.. put mine next to yours and it will look like a 4wd!

so you recommend pedders eh? what size springs did you get from there? and you dont need to get new shocks? did you end up putting a camber kit in? front or back?

get back to me mate!! cheers ~

    Hi mate,

So far mine is stock and I plan to keep it that way. Ill be getting it tuned soon, but thats as far as ill go. Ive owned lowered and loud cars for 10 years, I just want something comfortable and cruisey now! (getting old)

Pedders will sting you, I got a quote from them to lower mine and it scared me!

Exhausts - either a single 3.5'' Sureflo or a twin 2.5'' Di Fillipo should do the job nicely A little more expensive than X-Force and the like, but better quality

Thanks mate, I try to look after the old girl!

Basically just springs. FE2 shocks are good enough unless you're going to dump it on its ass. My car is as low as you can go whilst maintaining minimum ground clearance. No camber kit fitted either. I'm on to my third set of Bridgestone Potenzas since the car was lowered in 2006 and have had no wear issues at all, front or rear. Not sure about part numbers but I can find out for you if you like.

Di Fillipo is over-priced imo. You can get a decent exhaust for less if you know where to look.

*EDIT* I didn't get Pedders to install mine because as some people have said, they are expensive. I just used their springs.

Hey mate nice ride, looks in good condition

I'd have to agree with Bravotwozero on pedders, I also went there to get my suspension done, I just told them were I wanted it to sit and worked out a price with them. If you do go to pedder's I would recommend when getting it done go on a near empty fuel tank as the weight of the fuel will lower it just a tad bit more.
So far I have really enjoyed the pedders sports ryder suspension and love the fact that they got rid of majority of the body role from the car!

    here is a pic

Good luck with the ride and drive safe

Thanks for the pics NateGL, looks like its sitting nicely on the 18s and its not dumped on its arse which is what im looking to do did they install a camber kit and change your shocks? im looking to chuck either a set of 19s or 20s on so do you boys recommend i buy the rims first before lowering it?

yea they changed the shocks, thing is though even at this height you will scrape everywhere, and when carrying people in the back it gets dumped on it's ass & tyres tuck heaps, but yea depends what you're looking for, pretty sure they have stock camber kits in them from the fe2.

id go the gts rims though alot of people are riding on them now.
