i got a mace 12mm plenum spacer, was in the middle of taking the lid off the manifold and noticed it was all black (looked like grease)
question is should this be taken off and cleaned?
cheers
Won't hurt. Just get yourself a can of Throttle Body and Carby cleaner. Quite cheap. Just spray on.

caustic soda bath is the best way, but generaly you need to go to an engine reconditioners to get it done as it will eat your skin.
like acarmody said just use some carby cleaner, it will come back so i would not bother removing it for a caustic soda bath
I used kerosene and a kitchen scourer, and a modelling wire brush.
Just did my neighbours VT Intake Manifold Gaskets. (couple of days ago... lol,)
The inside was all black and filthy, knowing it would be I got some carby cleaner (not the cheapest one) and it didn't budge most of it, took the top layer off - the fresh stuff, with some elbow grease, but that shit was baked on there hard, didn't even look like moving.
Read on here someone has used a hardcore oven cleaner - Mr Muscle or something along the lines of?
Maybe give that a go?![]()
Bam!!! And the dirt is gone!!!!
