Hey guys, I've got a vy s ute without a tonneau cover at the moment and I have been searching high and low for info on how to install one. Reason for this is that I'm unsure of whether or not I'll be able to do it myself on a sat morning or whether it will need drilling and etc like in the older models tonneau covers (ie. VG). Anyone who has any info or even a few pics of how the install goes if you wouldn't mind just drop them into this thread as it will help me immensely as I don't have time to drop the ute off during the week as I use it for work (Bricky).
Thanks in advance!
Sean.

Hey Sean
I assume the ute uses the same system for holding down the tonneau as the Crewman. If that's correct, the factory tonneau comes with an aluminium rail at the front end that drops into a recess on each side of the tray, directly behind the rear window. The sides then clip under the top rail of the tray on the remaining three sides using a solid but flexible plastic rail that is fitted to the tonneau. You simply pull the tonneau taught, slide one end of the plastic rail under the groove along the top side of the tray and run your hand along to push it into place for the full length of that side, then repeat the process for the other side, then the rear. A fold-over flap secures along the front of the tray above the solid rail.
If it uses another system of retention, then my advice isn't worth a bumper......
AFAIK Calabers on the money, no drilling required...
The very first - VU's til the VZ's they all have the same plastic strips that hold them in, can be tricky to start them off
Thats the flexible, black tonneau cover, not a hardlid/lockable type.
Not sure whats involved in putting a hardlid on though.
yer mate it has the aluminium rail as stated which just slips in the front locators (near the rear window) and clips over the lip around the side of the trayeasy peasy to fit and remove, its all in the owners maunal if you have one, they even roll up and slip into a bag for storage.
oh one thing you may need if the steel rods that run across the tray under the cover to support the middle from sagging, it have 4 plastic retainers that slip under the lip inside the tray, if you run your hand on the lip im talking about there will be 2 circled holes in the lip, thats where these plastic bits sit, and the rods go into these from one side to the other.
if you want a photo im more then happy to get one or two for ya![]()
also with stock covers (not shore about aftermarket) they have elastic so if your load sits above the tray you can still cover it with the elastic strap![]()
