IRS Diff went Bang Last night

hey guys wondering if you can help me!!!
driving up a hill last night in my vy ss and dropped it back a gear to put my foot down a bit and the Diff went bang. pulled up and had a look and nothing was hanging underneath, i got bak in the car and tried all gears they all worked. The car would drive only on idle, as soon as i put my foot down it was just grinding and not going any where.

any ideas of wat it would be? feed back would be very helpful cheersl

sounds like you have broken your diff gears.

You will probably find when the diff is removed from the car and checked that the pinion gear in the diff will be partially stripped. There will also be damage to the teeth in the ring gear.

Out of interest, how many km - and when was the diff oil last changed?
