    Default Extra Gauges

Hi i have recently purchased a VY I S Ute and am wondering if i can pop out the panel on the dash above the CD/air con console and fit the panel from the R8s etc that has 2 gauge holes in it?

Also i want to fit the monaro bonnet with the 2 grills in the centre, not sure what its called. Is this a simple bolt over or are there modifications?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hey mate,
Not sure about gauges but i know that the monaro bonet wont fit becuase it is vt/vx shape. Though there are many aftermarket companies that make the monaro bonet to fit other models, check ebay.

    Cheers.

Yes you can get the gauge panel but these are very expensive for what you get.

Here is an example: JHP Vehicle Enhancements - Specialise in Holden Monaro and Commodore Spoilers, Body Kits, Tyre and Wheel Packages.

There are other companies selling them but at around the same price.

    Ok thanks for the help.

Trentvy: Was there a wiring loom of any sort already underneath the dash panel or did you have to run power and sender wires and fit an analogue oil pressure sensor?

A lot of ppl recommend not buying an SS inductions gauge pod as the quality is not so good.

VDO make a kit specific for the VY with gauge pod and oil pressure and volts gauges with all wiring, adaptors sensors etc included, for around $400. The genuine HSV binnacle is around $650-700 from JHP. Other options are buying an HSV gauge pod (only) from ebay for $200 and buying your own 52mm gauges to fit. For oil pressure, you can also buy an HSV oil adaptor plate which replaces the blanking plate above the oil filter, probably better than teeing in off the pressure sender as sooner or later it WILL break.

Just be aware if you buy a fibreglass bonnet. Some may not meet ADR compliance and therefore make your car illegal (insurance reasons) if you are in a prang. You get what you pay for and there are some dodgey looking fibre items on there.

As for the gauges, I managed to pick up a genuine HSV pod relatively cheap on ebay, then sourced some Aeroforce Scangauges from the USA. The gauges are fully customisable to what you want to display but they do cost a few $$$. Might be easier (cheaper) to get a couple of 2 1/16" size

    Ey Mate,

I have installed some gauges in my VY wagon, got a cheap pod off ebay, and some nice gauges that use electronic senders. Had to install the wiring (picked it all up from the stereo wiring harness). For the price it has come up great... Im not paying 250 for a gauge holder...

I have an oil pressure gauge and a oil temp gauge, oil pressure gauge is installed in the oil cooler bypass bracket, temp is in the sump. I had to drill and tap both, but that was no problem...

The pics show where the pressure sender is located, I was lucky and had the bypass bracket with the untapped boss on it (green arrow)...

The computer is great as most of what you need is available straight from the PCM via the OBD2 port (signal and pickups). These are the gauges I have in my VY SS - Aeroforce Technology Inc | Products - Interceptor.
I guess you could get these for V6 (not sure as I have not checked).

If you get gauges that show only one thing, get something that is useful. Don't bother with a pissy volt gauge or something that the dash can tell / warn you about as you have just wasted your money. Its like buying a huge tacho when you already have one on the dash. Why do you need 2??? Trans temp, Oil pressure, Coolant temp, Boost etc. Things like that would be of benefit IMO

woah, those aeroforce ones looks sweet! .. and you said about getting the data from the PCM, how would this be done? .. do we just splice into the wires or is there another way for it to be done?

i would really love a gauge that tells me the instantaneous fuel consumption, just like the cluster has when its in the diagnostics mode, but is there a way to extract that data onto the gauges?, im guessing somehow from the OBD2 Port, how would that be done? would the gauge read the signal? or would there need to be other modifications?

Reading the Aeroforce website you posted, you have some connectors and stuff for it. would i just have to buy one of those and it should plug right in yeah?

    cheers dude heh

The gauges are plug and play. They come with a cable that plugs into the OBD2 port and simply runs up to the gauges (power and data). Hardest part about getting the gauges in was running the cable from the binnacle to the port behind the dash, took about 10 minutes to jiggle it through. I picked my dual gauges for AUD$490 delivered. (Aussie distributor wanted $580) PM me if you would like to know where I bought them from.

They work great and have plenty of options to pick from as you can see from the details on the site. A couple of options didn't work but that is to do with the year model. I have wired in my wideband O2 sensor so I can display air fuel ratio and still use the signal while I log / tune data via EFI Live.

Great OEM looking gauges that cover a wide arc of display properties. Considering they do cost a decent amount, buying 2 decent Autometer gauges might cost around the $150-200ish mark and it will only ever show 2 properties while you can have 2 properties on each gauge (or more with scrolling data) plus they have an inbuilt shift light / warning light depending on how you want it set up.

these gauges look awesome! Has anyone fitted these to their vs-vy v6 or L67 and if so what sensors did it manage to pick up? I've read that their obd2 based gauges either dont pick up much or anything at all on the ecotec/L67s. They have a gauge called anologic which do the same thing but mainly work off sensors you hook up to it rather than obd2, which might be a better option if the obd2 version doesnt work well enough/at all in vs to vy v6es. I'm in the market for some gauges and these look like the best way to go! @sixes i'll be sending you a PM!

oh awesome man, thanks for that! + rep for you!

Oh and that pm i was trying to send today on my phone buggered up so its sent properly now!

Yeah i've read on the L67 forum that these aeroforce interceptor obd2 based gauges dont pick up on as many sensors etc on 6's as they can on ls1's, i think i read that it has something to do with 6's not being 100% obd2 or something. But looking forward to your test sixes! Please if you can note down all the parameters it picks up on!

    Thanks again

    i doubt it'd work. VY SS is OBD2 compliant, VY v6 isn't.

yeah, ive since discovered this fact! If anyone that didnt have an OBDII car was still interested in these gauges, try the "analogic" range: Aeroforce Technology Inc | Products - Analogic Order

nowhere near as cool as the interceptor gauges in terms of things it can read, but to still have the ability to read up to 6 important parameters (the ones you choose and buy senders for) is pretty good.

    Thoughts?
