look i was wondering in putting a VY V6 Engine in my car, i got prices and itll cost me all up $2000.. has anyone ever did this before, will the car go good?? are the vy v6's better then the vr v6 engines? whats the difference? help please![]()
hey mate, the VS-VY series of Holden's have the Ecotec 6 motor, which some may argue is alot better than the Buick motor, mainly interms of fuel efficiency, I read somewhere on the forums that the Ecotec V6's respond better to modifications (exhaust, extractors, memcal tune etc), differences are covered somewhere in the forum have a look around!
anyone else know about this?
yeah im saying will it be a good ride, like smooth , arent the ectotec better engines than the buicks.. plus i got lsd and 3:4:5 in my car? you reckon its worth while doing this
your going to need to change the wiring harness, not sure to what extent and also the ECU as the Ecotecs have sequential injection instead of burst fired injectors plus they have an air mass sensor not a MAP sensor and a number of other differences and sensors in different places etc. If you can get the VY motor you will probably need to get the wiring etc out of a VS?
Not sure what you need to do about your gearbox if it's an auto.
Hey WORTUS, you are exactly correct, my mechanic is on the way to do all this, his putting the VS Wring and changing the wiring harness.. big job his charging me $2500 with pacemakers included, and VS tranny fitted? you think this is a good deal, itll be something different i think hopefully it goes good AND ITS ASMOOTH RIDE THAN MY VR V6 Engine?
WHy don't you just buy a vs???
cause i have resprayed my car and i dont wana get rid of it?? its in very good nic
Ok so what size is the stock exhaust?? and just to let you know, i got lsd 4 pin, 3:4:5 gears , CAI, Filter k & n, pacemaker extractors and Vy v6 engine in my Vr.. but still haven't exhaust.. So with all these mods you still recommend i get 2.25 or 2.5 with rear muffler and center??
anyone????
I haven't done this so not sure how many hours it would take but most mechanics would charge around $80 an hour I'd say. Are you changing the engine and transmission in one? It's a big job especially replacing the wiring harness and ECU as I'd say he has to change the wiring between the 2 which would mean pulling the console and dash out. When it's done go and check out a VS to make sure all the little clips and brackets etc that hold wires in place have all been fitted.
hey guys i finally converted the vy v6 engine in a vr commodore, i just got the 2.5 red back sport exhaust its ok, but there's no torque like 0-60km its pretty sluggish, when i had my vr engine, when i pressed the accelerator abit you'd feel it pull, but with the vy engine in its pretty sluggish down low.. now is this due to the engine or the exhaust is to big, cause i heard 2 1/4 is good for take off.. ???
i want my car to have quick responsive acceleration, its the best feeling. any suggestions..?
what mods can i do to make it like my vr, i used 2 love the torque man, this vy engine is way 2 slow down low
Welcome to the ecotec !!
i wouldnt be expecting much from either a buick or an ecotec... although your vy ecotec is probably faster than it feels, i mean there is almost ten years of refinement there.
My VY Ecotech is a lot better than the buick in my old VN and if at all slower 0-400 metre times it's marginal at best.
If you have the 2.5" exhaust maybe try replacing the mufflers if you have the straight thru type replace them with the type with a similar path through them to the originals (offset inlet and outlets).
no torque? I've got a standard ecotec with an exhaust in my vy, if i plant my foot it goes rather hard for a 6..
Doesn't sound like something quite right.
Check out my ride!
Sorry boys all good, it was only running on 5 cylinders, one of the spark plugs were faulty, now it ***in boggies
just a quick question, that mace engineering place, is it worth getting high ratio roller rockers, they seem expensive??
and bigger throttle..?
ive got a vn commodore, has a lot of work done to it, wanted to know what u had to change to put the vy in ur car, for instance wiring harness, engine mounts, transmission, exaus. does it go any better than ur old engine,
As far as Mace stuff goes if you want anything I'd just get the spacer between the plenum and inlet manifold they increase low down torque back to about what the Buick has/had sio I understand and they are not that expensive.
hey guys jw if any 1 has any info for me , im putting a ecotec into my 5sp vg ute. its a vt ecotec auto motor. ive found a single mass flywheel from the wreckers and its an after market 1 made by exedy. ino the ecotec auto and manual cranks are different coz the manuals us 2 8mm dowel holes to locate the flywheel but im not worried about that just going to use new genuine flywheel bolts from holden. the box im using is the factory T5 from the ute ino it will bolt up to the ecotec coz the vs series 1 used the ecotec with the T5 from factory. any other problems anyone knows about would be greatly appreciated. thanks guys
