Hey Guys,
My VY S Pac seems to be drinking the fuel faster than I can afford to fill it up. The display only varies slightly between 13.0-13.3L/100km..even on a freeway it remains within these numbers. I understand in heavy traffic/ metro driving this is reasonable..but on a freeway?
My car is not supercharged, I drive sensibly, always ensure my tyre pressure is correct and use premium unleaded.
Any idea's on how I can reduce these figures?
Thanks.
u think thats bad i get average 14-13.7/100km so i get about 400 kms.. is yours manual or auto
I have to agree with Liam, my VY gets 15/100 most times.. so 13 is looking like a pretty good figure.
upgrading your CAI would help a fraction.. remove any excess weight from your car.

Im gettin between 11.6 and 12.3 but thats a mix of metro & freeway.
On average i thought the vy only got around 12l/100km anyways.
if its auto turn the power shift off and just take off from still gentley and it will certainly lower a little bit but not much
at the moment mine is saying 10.4L/100km with 50/50 freeway/suburban driving, power button is always on and i dont take off like a granny from traffic lights etc.
Wow on the highway my manual VY S1 S will do 8-9L/100 around town its more to the 11-12L/100k a full tank lasts me around 2-3 weeks when just driving to and from dropping and picking kids up from school, its a 20km round trip so 40km a day for that.
Just dont be heavy on the foot and you should see it drop down a bit, make sure to reset the consumption too when filling up, found i get a good reading on mine when i do this, and its a little less fule usage then what i would normaly have without resetting it.
Mines say say 9.3.. but then again its just a Lumina :S
I used to get those sort of figures (13l/100k auto) in mine but now get 11.2l/100k average after a decent tune up.
New plugs set to the right gaps, fuel filter, oil filter and use the recommended 10W-30 grade engine oil.
A new air filter and clean your throttle body throat too.
Don't skimp. Do everything and you'll see an improvement.
1. For one thing check your air filter element. It is probably clogged up with very fine dust. They are less than $20 to buy from Holden and easy to remove and replace. From my experience they should be changed more frequently than the recommended intervals in the service book.
2. Next time you fill up with fuel add a bottle of Nulon Fuel Injection Cleaner.
The V6s can guts the fuel driving around the city but on Highway running at a steady 100 km p/hr approx on fairly flat road you should be able to average around 8-9 Litres per 100 kms on premium fuel.
You guys seem to be getting bad figures to me, maybe because vy is heavier than my vs?
But i get ~12L/100klm around town and 7.2L/100klm on the highway
Thats V6 Manual with CAI, exhaust, always very regularly serviced, inlcuding cleaning air filter every 5000k's

ive started shifting earlier in mine around 1.5 rpms.. semms to be droping but no figures liek 12 or nehtign like taht its always around 13.5 to 14/100.. will chaging the filter etc.. make an actaul difference ??
my s ute gets about 15/100 since my service where as it used to only be on about 12.5/100 done 150kms and used half a tank so far...
livin' the low life.
i get about 13-14 around the city...on freeway can get it down to anywhere between 9 and 11
wat wiht the tank size aswell... cause i can only fill to 50L thought it was 70L... also as soon as i fill to full i dirve about 8kms ive used nearly a quater of a tank then form tehre it goes really slow then again fast then slow???? ne one else get this??
peak hour traffic every night, mine was at 17L/100 lastnight and no i don't thrash it

Sounds like your float in the tank might be seaping fule into it, this if VY uses the float system??
Best bet would be take it to a mechanic, and tell them whats happening, they will check it, but a warning its not cheap to get replaced, one of my old cars cost me just on 300 for it and i done all the work, i hear mechanics like to charge alot more.
That would be my first guess with you fule going from full to 3/4 within min's.
My next guess is that your gauge is out.
how do you reset the fuel comsumption on the trip computer?
Captain O'Hagan: I swear to God I'm going to pistol whip the next guy who says, " Shenanigans."
Mac: Hey Farva what's the name of that restaurant you like with all the goofy shit on the walls and the mozzarella sticks?
Farva: You mean Shenanigans?
happens automatically when you reset your trip (by hitting the set button)

My VY S pac ute gets 7.5 on freeway and 10 around town, if i drive it really gently i can hold it at 9.5 around town or really hard takes it to 11. Stock everything and manual. Could need an injector clean, if the digital display calculates fuel usage from injector pulse width. You guys with 13-15 must have bucket loads of power, or be puffing black smoke at times?
13's????
i drive my car hard and never got it to 13 the most was 12 and that was alot for me
average of 10.1
MY VY Sedan is averaging around 10.4 L/100km around town (no heavy traffic) and that's with E10. Prior to that with 91 it was gettign just under 10 L/100km. I have tried 95 fuel and the fuel usage is the same. Lowest I have seen is about 7.5 L/100km on the highway running it on normal 91 octane fuel.
I'd suggest changing your air filter, check the plugs and leads and see how it goes, make sure your using the right oil viscosity as well. Genuine air cleaners are the go I bough tmy last one for about $8 to $9 from a local dealer which is way cheaper than a Ryco from an auto parts shop.
