    Default Few Questions...

    Hi.
I have a VYII Berlina and just have a few questions that I need answers to and would appreciate your comments.

1st question: I have recently gotten some VZ Calais Springs and want to know if I need new shockers or I can use factory ones when installing these springs?

2nd question: If I was to get some of the factory chrome strips for the side of the door, get them painted, what kind of job is it to take off the old ones and install new ones? If it is too hard, I will leave it as it is - with some homemade chrome strips stuck on.

    Cheers and thanks in advance,
    Ben

door strips will be a nightmare and probly alot more hassle than ur willing to go through, about the springs...i doubt you would need to replace the shocks but u never know, VY/VZ are very similar, but why did you buy VZ ones anyway? would have thought it would just be easier going for a sure thing with VY ones

Cheers mate. Yeah I may just leave my 'imitation' chrome strips on lol.

Anyway, I got these VZ ones for a steal. Just the springs. I was looking for VYII Calais springs. I beleive they are at FE1.5 Spec? Anyway, this is supposubly sportier than the factory standard suspension that I have currently got in my Berlina. My uncle has a VYII Calais and it handles a hell of a lot better than mine and sits low - this is the suspension I was looking for. I was under the impression that VYII and VZ has the same suspension package (luxury sport). Anyway, I don't know what shocks they are meant to have in them.

    Thanks for your help.

I'd get some new shocks anyway. If you still have the original shocks, they are probably getting pretty tired by now.

    Hey Ben

The VZ and VY ii Calais springs are the same settings. (FE 1.5)

Just as I suspected... do you recommend chucking new shocks in there? (car has done 81000)

I know that the FE 1.5 suspension has its own shocks because they are valved to suit the stiffer and lower springs. If you wanted to get the full benefit from the springs, new shocks make sense. You'd be surprised how worn yours will be even after only 81,000km. My two rears were stuffed at 90k, with leaks from both.

Do you know the GM part numbers for factory FE1.5 Shocks? Or have any shocks to recommend that would go well with that suspension setup?

    Cheers

No, never had to buy them. I seem to recall being quoted about $130 for a pair at trade price from Holden, but you could check the listings at a parts supplier for alternative brands.
