    Default Exhaust Advice

Hey guys, ive got another question for yas heh,

Ive decided the next thing i wanna do to my car is beeef up the exhaust system, I dont really understand the workings really well of the exhaust system, but im trying to learn hah..

My main goal is to achieve performance and power, not noize, i dont really want it to sound like an airplane, just to go as fast as one heh.

but yeh since i dont understand the brands of parts and whatnot, i was hoping some of you exhaust smarts dudes could help a newbie out.. The budgets probably around $1000-$1500, maybe stretch to 2k if its really good lol..

But yeh im hoping to get the works done, Extractors, Cat Converter, and the Pipes, probably prefer a muffler unless it kills performance?.. because i don't want it loud.

Ive got a V6 November 2003 Series 2 VY 25th Anniversary (as ya can probably see in my profile thing). Planning on getting it tuned in the future sometime, but all stock as far as tunes go at the moment..

I heard that Pacemaker make good extractors, What types of extractor (model numbers and whatnot) would best for my engine? .. I read somewhere that the PH 5061 ones are good? .. but they got distracted and i didn't really understand anymore.

I also heard that Redback make good exhaust systems also, I read that single 2 1/2 Inch work great and a dual system is a waste of money, (Unless Turbo'd, Which mine wont be) .. I read about straight through mufflers, are they just gutted mufflers? or do they help to lower the noize level? . or do they help with performance?

And Cat Converters im clueless about lol, All i know is its illegal to gut them, and the Hi-Flow ones are good for V8's? So im guessing their good for V6's or just a waste?.. I dunno any good brands or models to get of them so help is great :P

links to ebay or other websites would be awesome, as this sorta shows me what were talking about hehe

    thanks again guys!..

I've been told not to worry about cat converters unless you're really going all out, just get their entry and exit pumps widened for the larger exhaust. An additional resonator than most sports exhausts can cut the noise down. There is a thread in here somewhere on exhaust notes for V6s where people have linked youtube clips so maybe search that out and you can get a better idea of what you're buying.

Cats generaly only last about 100,000kms anyway, well the standard ones anyway as the platinum and palladium reaction fails after a while.
They would probably still flow ok but in a sense if your car had done alot of Kms they wouldnt be very efficient anyway.
They will still flow ok if not gummed up but small gains can be had replacing them but thats your call.

You should also think about ur induction setup, even if you just get a high flow panel filter. Getting air into the engine is just as important as getting it out. also yes single system is the way to go
My setup is: Lukey 2.5 catback with 2 muffler, really quiet cruise note and a nice growl under acceleration and a Lukey Ultra flow panel filter.
Modding up ur v6 doesnt add much value to ur car, people dont like seeing modded commodores
so if ur planning on upgrading to something properly fast in the near future consider not installing extractors, cats etc.

yeh dude, the intakes just about all done, pretty much just the exhaust left now, just dont really know what to do, not really planning on getting rid of the car anytime soon, as i only just brought it about a month ago lol. Ive read that extractors do better than an upgraded exhaust so maybe i should just get extractors and left the standard exhaust on? .. or will i have problems with the extractors not fitting?
