Default Contemplating a SV8, what should I know?

    Hi Guys,

    Before I start,
Yes, I do drive a Falcon, and yes, I do like my Ford, but I'm really looking for a good reliable, manual V8 sedan for cheap.
I would just go an get an XR8, but you can only get rubbish for what I want to spend and I've been told by Ford fans that the Gen3 is better anyway! SO!
The SV8 has definitely caught my fancy, they are going for a song these days for what you get
    (try finding a 6-speed XR8 for under 20k)

Being a total Holden-newbie, I'd like to know if there are any things I should consider/check out first?

IMO get an SS, they are a more recognised badge and resale value will hold for longer I think, the options of luxury/comfort offered in an SS are alot better as...SV8's are as stock as can be...just an exec with a V8...but if you just want it to thrash a big engine..then SV8 would be perfect for you, 17-19k would be a price you could get a pretty decent SS for now days..obviously if you want something special they can go for as much as 23-25 but thats kinda unnecessary, SV8's on the other hand...dont seem to sell for all that much less...might find the odd one but be careful as they probly brought it in the first place cos it was a cheap V8 they could thrash too... i think you"ll be better off getting an SS but thats just me. good luck with the hunt and let us know how you go

oh and also, dont be affraid to make offers that may usually seem alot lower than a usual offer, most V8's on carsales have been there for quite a long time as V8's are getting a little harder to sell now day...and you never know how desperate the seller is until you dangle the carrot lol, just give it a go could save you thousands

An SS interior is pretty bargain basement as well. The only things i can think of that put the SS apart from an executive are power windows, coloured dials, sports pedals and that fair few were optioned with leather.

    If you want a non-pov interior and a V8 get a Calais.

    Thanks guys,

I'm actually leaning more towards the SV8 over the SS, even though the SS has some cool features.
I really need cheap muscle (going to aim around 14-15k) I don't have a problem owning a spartan-stock car, I'm not really wooed by all the bells and whistles, although I may (if I buy one down the track) throw an SS grille on the front if that's possible, they look soo much cooler
I'm almost sure that I want to buy one now, I'm coming off my P's in less than a month (y)
How does the LS1 run on injected gas?

i love my SV8 its got full power windows, cruise, sunroof, manual. so im not missing out.

ss grille wont fit as its narrower. you'll need to change to an SS front bar.

thats one of the main reasons I would get an SS over an SV8, i think the bodykit on the SS looks 10x better than the exec'ish SV8 kit

I'd go an SV8 but look for one with fullpower options not just power windows in the front. I think they look cleaner.

i dont like the bulky kit, my plan was to make it blend in and make it smooth. mine was always going to be a sleeper. no spoilers, kits or badges. but that my preference.

I don't mind the smaller spoilers on the VY's but I think the SS type sticks over the sides too much and I prefer the exec front but that's just my opinion. My VY has the smaller type rear spoiler factory fitted. Initially I wanted a VY without any spoilers etc but liked the 25th Anniversary package when I saw it.

Get the SV8. Then get ALL the badges off it. Nice sleeper indeed. Cops will barely look at you.
