Pinging after freeway

My VY II SS pings in 6th between 80-100 km/h AFTER driving on the freeway at 110km/h with or without the air conditioning on.

Any other time you can click her into 6th at 80km/h or more no worries.

Any ideas?

Hey mate, Do you know what the definition of "pinging" is or are you just descriping the sound?

In 6th gear at 80k's, your RPM's would not be high enough to PING, (ignite the mix before TDC).

An SS should have more than enought Torque to be in 6th at 80k's but you may be hearing a Labouring of the motor.

Yeah fair enough its not knocking but yes its labouring after I pull off the freeway and only when I pull off the freeway.

Does the ecu become accustomed to the revs/speed for max efficiency and stay there temporarily or something or should I maybe change the plugs?

Weird problem, can always change to 5th but its annoying and a waste of premium.

No one else experienced it? Typical example for you is pulling off the f3 after doing 110 for an hour and your're doing 90 on the off ramp in 6th and she starts labouring...

Car is stock as a rock and runs on 98 all the time.

Plugs are about due for a change though which is what I think it might be. Just unkeen for the $190 plugs.

Any other time will do 80 km no worries.

is the exit up-hill?
i've noticed that 6th just doesn't cut it on certain inclines, but is great on flatish roads

If in 6th your Rpm's drop below 1300rpm then you will be labouring the motor.

change to 5th.

6th is like an overdrive gear. good for 60-300kph.

but will give you no power under 110kph.

so down change mate.

If you are paying $190 for plugs, you are getting ripped.

what are you buying iridium or something? there is no need on a non boosted engine for daily driving.
plugs should be no more than $80 for a decent set
