The name really speaks for itself.. I've pinpointed the source of a rather annoying whistling coming from my engine bay and it seems to be coming from that pulley(circled in the photo). Can anyone tell me A) what it is and B) how do i fix it?
Cheers.

ecotec engine.. Im going to go out on a limb and say its the air con compressor?. Im a bit drunk, but looking at my own ecotec, thats what i assume it is, since its hanging off the side.
I'm going to say air conditioner? Just went and looked at mine.
Definitely is air-con compressor.

be your air con dude, does it make the noise when its turned on off or both?
Thanks for the replies! The noise is always there regardless of the air con being on or off.

maybe time for a new belt.
Does it change in sound with the rpm of the motor?? i had my pulley/clutch replaced under warranty as the it was faulty
and yes its the AC
I had the bearing shit itself in the aircon pulley in my Vp ,it sounded like a low power steering fluid noise and was there reguardless if the aircon was running I managed to replace the bearing while the compressor was in the car

Doesn't change with rpms. Sounds similar to what vsl67 described. If it helps I'll record the vid and post on YouTube

yeh replace all of them once one goes the rest should follow
Before you go changing random pulleys chasing a whistle, Sparay a little crc on each one with engine running to isolate the one thats making the noise. saves time and money. Due to it being a single belt drive vibrations and nosie can be transmitted kinda like a ventriloquist throwing his voice, no point chasing your tail. Thats advice given to me by a trained holden mechanic, so id thought i would share .
Cheers
Thanks and yeah good advise.. i'll do that...
My mechanic mate showed me a little trick to isolate noises like this, he got a long flathead screwdriver and placed the end of the head on the bolt of the pulley....you can hear the noise travel through the screwdriver if you put your ear to it.
If that does work, it's apparently the pulley 2 up from the aircon compressor..
