Hey guys, Ive just brought some extractors from ebay the other day, Im planning on fixing up the whole exhaust for my November 2003 VY Commodore.
To my understanding Series 2 Vy's were made in November 2003, .. So im guessing i will need to find a series 2 exhaust system?. But im having quite a hard time in doing this, Most of the exhausts on ebay i can find are for the Series 1 VY's. Which isn't really any use to me,
So im asking whats the differences in the Series 1 and Series 2 Exhausts? .. is it possible to somehow modify a series 1 exhaust to fit on a series 2 car? becuase i heard that some pipe is longer or something and would it be possible to just cut it? .. im not sure
Thanks for the help guys, Also if anyone knows of anywhere to get a series 2 redback exhaust that would be awesome!!! lol. as it saves me a lot of stuffing around lol.
Thanks again!
Have a look under your car to see if you have twin cats. If you don't you can get a series one exhaust.
nah dude, theres just a single cat sorta next to the tranny, with the pipes that go out the back, so the series 1 exhausts will work then yeh?
these are the extractors i got
what else do i need to get them to work? .. maybe a new Y-Pipe or something? .. im not sure
There's no specific series 1 and series 2 exhaust system. There was a change to a twin cat system early in 2004 which was after Series 2 production started. This change was to comply with a change to exhaust emmission requirements. My November 2003 is a Series 2 and it has a single cat under the floor, mates early 2004 Berlina Series 2 has twin cats also has the modified power steering hose.
Your just going ot need to modify/replace the pipe on yours that's between your cast manifiolds and cat. I tink it involves cutting the 2 front pipes and welding the flange etc back on.
Is there an EGR port on those extractors?
alright cool, thanks dudes,
Dunno what you mean by an EGR Port dude, what does it do? and where abouts is it?
Exhaust gas recirculation, there's an EGR valve on the bacl of your engine, it's at the top on the passengers side and is a round decive with a corrugated metal hose coming out of it. It lets a bit of exhaust gas into the inlet manifold. It has to be connected to the extractors.
Typically people just block it off because it's just emission control rubbish, but it's still good to make it so it looks like it's there.
The EGR does more than emission control. It cools the exhaust valves making them last longer. If the EGR is disconnected then the car may be defected and there may be an associated fine. Emission control equipment on a modern engine is not rubbish it is there to minimise environmental impact, it may have been a problem back on Holden Red 6's in the 70's but not now days.
