Default Mafless tune, Pod or OTR and now a TB issue!

t's time for a few mods and a tune but I have stumbled on a few problems here and there.

Mafless tune seems to be the way to go and the more popular choice. this however creates another problems, to go Duspeed OTR or POD filter airbox setup. There is almost endless debate about what is better and what is the best, since none of my friends have V8's it is hard to even talk to someone let alone catch up with a friend who modifies their car.

So, I am turning to all of you on this site for some advice as talking to shops and tuners only creates more questions than answers. Having cleaned the throttle body last night after getting stuck open several times due to carbon and oil build up in the manifold adds to another questions. Should you upgrade to a larger 90mm TB and install an oil catch can to elevate this problem, has anyone done this? Does it actually improve the issue and create more power?

Having a manual VY manual is a jog, pacemaker headers, full redback 2.5 system with hi flow cats make is sound an feel like a V8 should but I want more. I have searched countless sites and forums on this site and now I feel a little lost as people comment but I can't experience something that is in writing. I literally know no one has a mafless tune and yes I do have friends.

My car is in your hands, hope some of you can help and before anyone suggests, I would like forced induction but the wallet doesn't allow it for the moment.

    Thanks everyone.

Which shops are you talking to? Where are you located? You should be able to walk into a decent tuner's shop, tell him what you want out of the car and your budget and he should be able to give you multiple options.
As said above, go a Dus OTR and mafless. It's unfortunate there's not a few tuners on here who can give their professional 2c in these types of threads.

What have these shops recommended and what is confusing you? You've talked to some of the best in the business there.

So many options with price differences tunes going from $990 to $2000 for a mafless tune. Now I am seeking an oil catch can as the plenum is getting rather oily.

A custom tune shouldn't be much more than 1k, if that. The $990 you were quoted is about on the money. 2k for a mafless tune? Sure that didn't include something else, because that's stupidly steep! I've never heard of a shop charging that for a custom tune.

Not kidding, some places don't like you asking questions. So far chevs offer mafless and Duspeed for about $1600, APS $1500 with a pod set up.

In a late model LS1 M6, full exhaust, quality OTR and tune you'd see around 230-240rwkw. Chuck a cam in and you're up around 260-270rwkw.

*These are ballpark figures, some cars give low numbers, some higher, and depends on how well each mods suits the others.

I Know mines a vx But still the same. I run a DUSPEED OTRCAI with a maffless tune by OZtrack and am pretty happy with the OTRCAI. The tune i got was a maffless mail order tune and has been touched up by Steve at Oztrack. Will have to go see him again wheni get the cam done for a dyno tune.. Im pretty happy with what i got out of it only cost $1100 for the lot.

Oh man that's awesome, might go though VCM Performance at some stage for the tune and cai. I think HPF are about $200 cheaper though.

The Monaro is booked in at Chevs to have a colour coded Duspeed otrcai and a mafless tune. I am hanging to see what it can achieve on the dyno.

    Thanks to all your help.
