The bellhousings are completely different, so you need to get a 6 speed manual case/box from a dedicated 6 cyl.

There is no such thing as stupid questions, Only stupid people.

Mal Woods Automotive do a kit for the 6 speed T56 to go behind a V6 ecotec. You will need pedal box, clutch master cylinder, flywheel and clutch, new gearbox cross member, modify your tail shaft, change some wiring on the gearbox loom, change the speed sensor settings in the ecu modify the console and the plate were the shifter comes through and wire up the reverse solenoid lock out.

You do realise that if you do this your ute will be an absolute slug. T56 gears are a fair bit taller than the getrag 5 speed - 6th will be unusable.

6spd will work but you'll need some pretty short diff gears.. meaning 1st will be pretty well useless I would suggest :P

Go with the 5spd, not enough results to justify the outlay getting a T56 in there.

A T56 and 3.93:1 gears will liven up any VY commo to no end. If you have the coin and really like the idea os a 6 speed then go for it I reckon.

Decicrate has been running a T56 behind his L67 for years with no dramas that I know of other than a lighter back pocket

Mal wood T5 kits are fricken awesome - i can vouch for them personally. I think it's about $5500 for the box, but if you want to do it properly it's going to cost you. Getrag conversions are significantly cheaper - i see them on ebay every now and then for about $1500 for everything.

We aren't talking about a T5 kit here. T56 seems to be the poison of choice. Chevtorque, Mal Wood and Dellow do bellhousing adapters for the V6

I know we're talking about the t56 but it's a complete waste of time on a NA ecotec - they just don't have the go about them to make use of a 6 speed.

AS chargedvx6 said, with the right diff gears and the right T56 you can get the N/A 6 going pretty well. It does come down to how much money you want to spend.
With a N/A the T5 won't have any hassles wit it putting up with some savage abuse, stay well away from the GETRAG, they are just to expensive if you have an issue, but they are a very light gearbox.
My T56 set cost about $7000.00 and this was with me doing the fitting and making all the small mods that no-one tells you about, like floor clearance exhaust mods getting the box to sit on the right angle so the tail shaft stays in perfect alignment.
The box is also a Road Race box hence the extra cost.
