Hey!
Ok so ive got a vy and shes running fine EXCEPT for when it rains. Works fine when i lock/unlock doors BUT when the rain comes, the drivers door latch only comes up halfway, leaving me to get extra wet and annoyed.
Usually i dont care about the little things but ive seen other threads about doors jamming and not opening altogether....so i thought post it up and see if anyones had similar probs that can be fixed!!
this isnt an ASR issue, its a general issue with the car therefore the post has been moved to the appropriate section.
Good luck with it!
Yes mine did this last week in the rain and has also done it once or twice before when the car has been out in the rain. It also has issues with a door not locking properly sometimes and the horn sounds, this has happened when the car has been in the rain, in the hot sun usually.
I think it is something to do with tolerances in the door lock mechanism and that there were revised parts fitted after a certain date. What is the build date on your car? I recall reading this on the soaring phoenix web site under model faults.
I don't think you can fix it unless you can find out what bit of the door lock mechanism is sticking and lub it or pull it apart and increase the tolerances somehow. I haven't bothered to se if it can be fixed I just open the back door and the drivers door opens usually opens by the inside handle.
i have this problem in my vy also when it rains,i replaed the lock mechanism, played around with other parts of the lock and it still does it.
Does it come up a bit more if you press the button again? Could be a partial short in the wiring limiting the amount of current going to the actuator.
That is an issue with a metallic sticker peeling off inside the wheel and shorting the horn contacts. The fix is to just remove the sticker.

No it just goes to the same point and you can't open the door. The only solution is to open it from the inside handle.
haha yeah have the exact same problem... would be nice to no if anyone has ever had this fixed and what was done...
i had this problem on my vy clubby rear door wouldnt lock or unlock propery and horm would sound, had to take it back to the dealer and they replace the actuator for the door and it fixed it aparently a common fault
Siz for the late reply...
nope. Def. doesnt come up when i try the button again.
im thinking of pulling the whole door apart and having a good look BUT if its a factory fault and holden wants to fix it for me im more than happy to do so!!
this may be a separate issue but on a couple of occasions ive heard the lock mech keep trying to unlock the locks AFTER i have already unlocked. It tries for about 10 secs then stops...could this be a similar fault to whats happening!??
I've heard of people going to the trouble of replacing the whole lock mechanism inthe front doors and the same thing still happens. There also quite expensive. There was a revision to the mechanisms at some point to try and resolve this issue. When mine does it I usually open the back door and need to either oull up the button or pull the inside handle.
I've noticed the drivers door exterior handle appears to have less play in it on a hot day or if the car has been out in the sun. I think it may be one of those problems you just have to live with, that siad I'd try lubricating it before replacing it and see what happens.
I have had this issue with both my VY's.
My Berlina is parked outside and it has copped the worst of this issue, I keep a cover on it so there has not been much rain getting onto the door but the car sat barley used for a longish period of time.
When the car started getting regular use, the lock on the front passenger door started getting stuck [would unlock automatically but not lock unless pushed down, beeping the horn] It never bothered me, the problem then got worse and the door remained deadlocked and off to Holden I went. $400(NZD) odd dollars later and the acutator was replaced. Problem is gone but remains intermittent.
I was told too that this is a common issue, the only problem being that the parts are ex-australia (i live in in New Zealand), so they are costly. If you can find a good one at a wreckers I'd go for it.
My other VY lives in the garage and has the same intermittent problem on the drivers door, lock comes up halfway. The easy fix: unlock the door with the key.
But if your problem is getting as bad as what I had with my Berlina then I would reccomend you get it looked at. Holden had to break into the door to get it open!!
Sorry for posting something completely non helpful, but when I saw the title, I immediately thought "Riders On The Storm" by the Doors.
