    Default Spolier Vs No Spoiler

    Hey Guys,

I own a VY S pac and I am currently up in the air about whether or not to leave the spioler on. Has anyone reading this post removed their spoiler and if so any pics?

Also what is required to remove the spoiler? Will it leave me with holes in the top of my boot?

    Cheers.

    Leave it on because
    1. When you take it off there will be 4 holes thru the bootlid.
    2. They definitely improve handling above 100kph.

stupid reason, who takes corners etc above 100kph? if your over that your more than likely going straight and handling is fine

You will get completely different answers about removing and keeping the spoiler..

I was intending on getting an SS spoiler on my car, but alot of people told me i would lose the "clean look".

Yes you will have holes in your boot lid if you remove the spoiler. You'll either have to:
    Deal with them.
have them welded and boot lid repainted.

The spoilers on a VY both S and SS have an aerodynamic effect and in my view the S type looks a bit nicer as it does not hang over the sides as much.
My VY has a factory fitted S pac type spoiler and it's a limited edition so I'll be leaving it there.
When I went looking for a VY I wanted a white one without a spoiler but ended up with a black car that had one based on the price and condition compared to other cars available at the time and the look of it has grown on me.
As it's an S pac if it was my car I'd leave it there. Also if you take it off you have to get the brake light in the rear screen to work otherwise the car is not road worthy. The wiring is all there but when you put a globe in you can't see it which means you have to frig around with that as well. It could be a ssimple as cutting a bit out of the rear parcel shelf cover or you may also need the lens etc I have not looked that hard I just saw the wiring there one day and put a globe in to see if it worked.
The only downside to the spoilers is there is a slight increase in drag therefore fuel use and this is more so with the SS type and they reduce rear visability slightly. Ther eis a good web article on the aerodynaiic development of the VY's just google for it.

I know it's not a VY, but a mate of mine had a VZ, and he took his spoiler off. Yes he had the holes there, but he taped them up with white tape from the inside and unless you were up close and looking for the holes you couldn't see them.

I thought it suited the car heaps. Looked very clean and nice and i haven't seen another one like it really.

Even thou the spoilers look great, realistically, when are you ever going to be able to drive fast enough on the streets often enough to fully utilise what it was designed for? Unless you race regularaly LEGALLY on the track, having one or not having one comes down to personal opinion.

the VZ looked bloody fantastic without it on there IMO.

Take it off and have a look and see if you like it. they aren't that hard to take on and off.

My opinion is that the back end looks.. funny.. without a spoiler. Same as on the VX, the spoiler finished the edges off I reckon

Have a look at this article; Browser Warning
It's an interesting read about the design of the VY/VZ compared to the earlier VT/VX

I'd think the effects of the spoiler woudl be evident at highway cruising speeds.

Some of the VZ models look good without the spolier, It's amazing how the different lights on the Calais change how the car looks. Other things like the colour of the number plate surround, rear bumper cover design and the cars colour all add up and some do look better with and some without the spoiler. I just think if the car had one from factory there best left as is for originality as most of those models would be of limited production.

I removed the spoiler from my ss, i much prefer them without it. I just bought a boot from an executive the same colour. Take it off and see how u like it for a few days. always put it back on.

Did you get the rear brake light working that's in the rear window? If so it would be interesting to know what you had to do.

my sv8 doesnt even have a rear window brake light.. has the spot for it but it aint there. as for the holes in the boot goto repco/supercheap auto and get some electrical blanking grommets.

Nah i doesnt have a rear light. The black stuff around the edge of the back windscreen covers where the light should be. You can't get it off. Ive been pulled up before and stated that it doesnt have provision for a third light. Never been done. Touch wood LOL
