Hi
I've got a fairly annoying problem with my drivers side window in that when its part way down it rattles when driving along. There is some movement in the glass as you can move it in and out probably about 5-10mm.
Just wondering if anyone has fixed this problem and can let me know how I can do the same? Is it a matter of replacing a certain part in the door or another simple fix?
Cheers
Drop the window a few mm, you may find the rattling disappears
The rattle happens whenever the window isn't shut, so dropping it doesnt change anything.
Basically the key to removing the rattle is getting rid of the sideways movement in the glass.
Is there something in the door which holds the glass that could wear out?
May be the window channel slides - they sit in the horizontal track under the window glass and break after a certain length of time. They look like white platic nutrigrain, approx $4 ea from Holden parts. They snap onto the pins on the ends of the window actuator arms inside the door - I found vise grips or a G clamp will be neded to push the new plastic parts onto the pins.
Will have to take the door trim off and move aside the clear plastic sheet behind trim to access the slides.
There are a few threads on this elsewhere - I have done this job on about 4 cars so far.....
Thanks heaps mate, Ill pull the door trim off and have a look. Cheers
Finally got around to doing this
How do I actually remove the window channel slides from the actuator arms? A bit hesitant to try and prye them off as I dont want to break the glass!
Or to put it another way, do I need to remove the actuator and/or window glass to change the slides?
i've noticed my window rattles when i go over bumps and that, when its half down
My vs did this. Had to re glue the seal that holds the window out from the inside inline with the top of the door card. if you look down the window there's about a 10mm gap on the inside.
When my olds owned it they used to get Holden to re glue it every 24 months from new.
Havnt had the same problem with my vy though. If its the same then it's an easy fix
You could always just leave it up and use the ac? Or have it all the way down?
Well if it involves having to drill out the rivets that hold the actuator in the door to remove it, then yes that will be the solution!
hahahahaha Dont you just love cars
My window does the same thing.. Must be a common problem on the Vy's..
My window makes a slight rattle when exposed to bumps or high frequency music, I will investigate it sometime soon and report back (have year 12 exams next week, so it's not really high on my to-do list).
pfft exams... Schools for suckers lol Nah, study is more important than cars if your going for your HSC
My window makes a squeek noise even when its closed....sounds like any minute its going to fall off. pisses me off.
Even when im going slow and brake slowly it sounds like its moving forward slighty. doesnt sound tightly fit.
Do we think the auto elec will fix this for me?

Next mods: Lowering, 4 Channel Amp and eventually 19's
Auto elec? Probably not, read the 4th post in the thread. May also be loose window guides (vertical) in the door.
Can anyone actually say how to remove the channel slides? I think the actuator has to come out, just need confirmation
