Default How To Remove VY Seats/Stereo surround etc..

    Hey all,
Starting the stereo install tomorrow, and i've never worked on a VY Before. How do i remove the sill covers? (To run wiring)
Also, are the seats as straight forward to remove as they were in my VS or is there some special trick with the newer VY? I know i'll have to undo the electric seat's wiring harness.

    Thanks.

You need to remove the plastic cover on the sills, just pop up with a screwdriver. Under them are spline screws, you'll need the spline bits to undo these.

My tips for VY stereo installs:

    Power Cable:
As per usual, use the clutch cable grommet on autos. Looking from the engine bay side its the diamond shaped grommet to the right of the brake booster. From the inside, remove the plastic cover under the dash that has the footwell light in it (2 scrivet-type clips, 1 plastic washer/nut), and the clutch grommet is to the left and up a bit from where the steering column goes through the firewall. Drill it out as best you can (it's fairly soft...). I made the hole smaller then the cable, then used silicon spray to lube up the cable and pulled it through. Result: water tight seal
In a manual, use the main wiring grommet which is left of the brake booster (cut an "X" with a knife and push the cable through).

Then inside the car i run it down under steering column and along the edge of the carpet, behind the kick panel, under the scuff panel, under the rear seat and into the boot.

kick panel - 2 philips screws, one obscured by scuff panel.
scuff panel - 4 torx at front door under plastic cover, 2 torx at rear door, 1 torx at B pillar, you also have to remove plastic trim around the seat rails. It also helps to remove the lower B pillar trim.
lower B pillar trims - 2 clips, pry it outward 1-2" from the top at each side and slide up.
plastic trim around seat rails - front and back pieces clip together. Drivers side has an additional screw near the petrol cap release. You need to hold up the petrol release lever and carefully slide the plastic trim over it to get it free. It may help to raise the drivers seat and remove the side plastic trim off the seat.

For the ground, you can use a seat bolt or the child restraint bolt on the parcel shelf (13mm nut required). Also keep your ground cable away from any crossovers, as that gave me alt whine.

    Removing the headunit:
    Tool to remove stock headunit

Removing lower left centre console cover:
Open the glovebox, remove two philips screws. Then there is another screw hidden by the passenger seat - slide the seat all the way back and you'll see it

Removing lower right centre console cover:
Open fuse box cover, remove two philips screws. Pull down on the rear of the cover (near the handbrake) to disengage a clip.

if u look at the scuff plat u will notice in the middle there is a thin oval shaped piece.....they come off.
Just need to pry one end up using a flathead screwdriver then slowly pop it off from side to side

This panel swings down. Simply grip the top, where it sits under the dash panel, and prise it away on both sides. It will swing down after disengaging from its clips. I don't recall whether you will need to remove it to remove the console side panel, but if you do, the panel then unclips from two hinges. Just give it a bit of a push upwards at each lower corner to disengage the hinge pins.

I think there's a HOW TO on vy/vz dash removal, it has some good pictures in it, straight out of a work shop manual.
Edit: Yep I just checked, it's the top one in the how to section.
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'

if you unplug the pre tensioners you need to disconnect the battery first otherwise you will register a fault in your SRA/Airbag system and Holden will charge you to clear it. Car won't pass a pink slip with that fault logged.
