Hey guys. Recentely changed the heater tap in my car and ever since doing this i have noticed my car blowing a fair bit of smoke from the exhaust also when i rev it a bit of water comes out... after the car has heated up the smoke kind of dies off but theres still a bit there...
is this because i have just changed the heater tap? or am i up for something else?... aslo i was looking on my headers and there was a bit of liquid right at the top of them. maybe a leaking head gasket? and help would be much appreciated!
im not 100% sure but im thinking buckled/warped head mite be the cause or something similar.. iv always thought that if water is coming out of the tail pipe with a lil smoke or steam means that the head is warped.
Signature Goes Here
A bit of smoke out the exhaust can be normal when warming up, I think.
What type of liquid is on the headers? it might oil leaking from the rocker cover.
Whenever you burn petrol or any hydrocarbon for that matter ,assuming you get complete combustion, the by products are carbon dioxide and water.
The water is in the form of steam ( this is the white smoke you are seeing ) and the water coming out of you exhaust pipe is condensed steam.
I would have a closer look at the liquid near your headers. It could be a leak but I wouldn't be concerned about what is coming out of the exhaust unless you are loosing a lot of coolant from the engine.
yeah as above with last 2 posts, plus its fairly cold at the moment you will notice it more easily
If you have checked your cooling system and the coolant level is not or has not dropped then consider the following:
'Excessive' water coming from the exhaust may be as a result of colder weather. As the hot exhaust gasses passs through the cold exhaust pipe condensation occurs resulting in water being emitted from the exhaust. As the engine and exhaust warm up the quantity of water and vapour being emitted will reduce. That's the reason why you don't usually see water vapouor or water emitted from the exhaust during warmer/hotter weather.
IF it is blueish smoke it is oil burning. If it is white smoke it is coolant "burning". Even in cold weather there should be minimal visible smoke from the exhaust on a healthy engine. If you have just noticed the problem - and it seems you have - then it needs investigation.
If there is a problem with the head gasket and coolant is blowing into the cylinders then you will get white smoke from the exhaust. Carefully monitor your coolant level daily and if it is dropping for reasons other than an external leak then I suspect you may have internal coolant leakage through a faulty head gasket. Check your oil for signs of coolant contamination and your coolant for signs of engine oil.
It's not water, its hydrochloric acid.
You're going to die.
i will upload a video of wats going on throughout the week guys cheers for all the replys ill check everything use have said
theres alot of moisture in the air lately, when the exhaust cools after driving it condenses in the exhaust pipes...so when you first turn the car on it will spit a little bit of water out then a bit of steam...if it doesnt clear up after a while then yeah, there could be a problem.
