Default 17" steel rim for spare

I think the answer is "no", but has Holden ever manufactured a steel 17" rim to suit pre VE models? I have a good 17" tyre which I'd like to have as the spare, rather than the 15" the car came with. If no steel wheel is available, I guess I'll have to go with another alloy rim to do the job.

Wouldn't they have had five alloys? I would have thought that an alloy spare should come with them when you think of the cost of the car.

The GTO'S ( and I believe also Monaro's) came with an alloy space saver spare 17" x 4".

To the OP (calaber) why would you want a heavy 17" steel spare when an alloy spare is lighter , just go to a wrecker and pick one up, any 17" hsv wheel VP-VZ will fit.
The 17" steel spare in the VE's is 7" wide even though it is called a space saver.
Even my VZ Senator has a so called space saver spare that is 18x8" with a 225/55x18 Z rated pirelli tyre, my road wheels are 19x8" with 245/35x19

    Hi Surfwagon

Yep, thought of that. It's just that finding one rim that the wrecker will sell can be difficult - they usually like to sell at least four if the set is complete. Might check the wreckers out anyway.

As long as you are not fussy about which rim you get they will usually have odd wheels from one car or another.
Sometimes a wreck may only have one good wheel or all 4 are broken and only the spare is ok.
Just make sure you can take it back and change it if it is not square or running true.
With popular wheels they will as you say try and make a full set to get more value out of them.

Yeah, I must admit, I'd prefer to get a fifth rim to match the existing wheels but they are pretty hard to find, especially at wreckers and in broken sets.
