hey everyone im new to this forum so hi
i want to make my vy s pack lumpy idle (3.8L), i have been told the only way to do that is change the cam gear and the cam shaft. is there any other way of doing it with out spending hundreds of dollars trying to do it?
how much do cam gears and cam shafts go for ?
how much do they charge in labor to put them in?
thanks everyone

want to see more then a typical commodore fitted with an exhuast, then check my thread out... link broken cuase i dont own a tuff car, i just made it up...
cant compair a turboed 6 to just wanting a lumpy idle =P
lol guys guys im on my red p'swish i could drive a big v8 or something turboed but i cant
also i got my exhaust done yesterday cat back 2.5 inch dual and i wanted it to rumble down when i take my foot of the gas but it seems the revs drop quickly because in neutral it does it but not in drive any ideas guys ?
A cam will give you the lumpy idle your after and then you will need a exhaust to hear it.
But once your going the lumpy part will be no more.
Cams can go for around $400 to $700 plus labour, gaskets and bolts. you wont need cam gears unless you are going a big cam and then you will need stronger valve springs then you will require a double row timing chain which will set you back around $160 to $260
i got the exhaust done last Tuesday from racers choice in seven hill, custom dual cat back exhaust 2.5" with no resonators and its heaps loud i just want it to idle a bit lumpy without taking a huge chunk out of my wallet.
i want the car to sound nice i love the way my car sounds now especially with the over run, i personally recon a lumpy idle will finish off the sound of it, i am not really trying to gain performance as i am on my P's but i do want it to sound nice
if anyone could direct me to a good place around western Sydney that can help me out with the cam and all that, that would be great thanks to all of you for your imformation
As was already stated, its going to cost you around $700 for the cam. Then you'll need to have it installed which will set you back another $500+ Depending on cam you'll need double row timing chain and valve springs + $600.
Exactly.
$2000 for a sound...
I say go for it also but it will cost you around $1200 for cam, double timing chain, 105 pound springs about $600 for a tune then plus labour, this depends on what you can do your self. And if you cant do the springs your self and your mechanic wants to thake the heads off you will have to pay for head bolts and gaskets
save your money ..
