Locked out....?

Locked out of the car.Car battery is flat as the car was waiting to get a new tranny.
The guy that stayed here to look after the house etc,while we were on holidays did'nt turn the engine over as we told him.

As a result the doors have locked us out,
The car battery is flat,i've tried opening the door manually with the key and the tranny still needs repairing.

My sister reccomended a mechanic she uses and explained to him the situation,particularly the part about being locked out.His words were"no worries....easy job"

As we've been waiting for him to have a look now for over 2 weeks,thought i'd ask around here and give it a crack myself if that is even possible...lol.

How do mechanics fix such problems as i would'nt have a clue.
BTW,the car is unregistered,hence asking the mechanic to come over and have a look.

Any response and ideas are greatly appreciated!

Put the key in the lock and give it a good old turn(clockwise). It'll feel like it's going to break but do this and lift the handle up and it should pop the lock. Plenty of people have done this and it works.
