Default wheel alignment is off after putting new rims on

    Hey guys

Sorry if this is a noob question but after removing my old rims which were old 15" CSAs and replaced them with 18" VY SS Rims, my wheel alignment is pretty off and i can feel a kinda small vibration in my steering now. Did i put in the rims incorrectly? and if so is there a way i myself can fix it. otherwise im gona head to beaurepaires or somewhere and get a wheel alignment

You will need an allignment die to now having a wider tyre and maybe different offset as well. This is normal with all cars

How can you tell the wheel alignment is out? If the car is drifting to the left more than before that's common when you go to lower profile tyres, the will be more influenced by bump steer and road camber.

The vibration would have to do with a wheel that is out of balance or buckled.

In terms of putting wheels on correctly or not, the only thing you can get wrong is having the tyre rotating direction wrong. All performance tyres are directional so just check they are all rotation the way they should, there should be a little arrow or indicator on the sideway.

Have the direction wrong could also account for the car pulling to one side, but not the wheel vibration I wouldn't think.

It won't be your wheel alignment...

Either a wheel & tyre are out of balance, a wheel or tyre is damaged (buckled or seppo), or you didn't fit hub rings when you installed the wheels.

Are the wheels genuine factory items? If not then the centre bore will be larger than the hub centre and you will have a mismatch. This can be corrected with hub rings but without them you will have balance issues.

You can overcome this issue temporarily by removing the wheels and doing the wheel nuts up in sequence one full turn at a time (ie don't do one all the way tight then do the next). This will help centre the wheel.

Did you get the rims balanced before you put them on or did you just get them and whack them on. Sometimes the wheel weights can be ripped off and cause it to vibrate etc.
