Strange noise

OK Don't know if anyone else has had this problem. But after i drive my car around and it gets warm i get this strange knocking noise only when sitting with my foot on the brake (auto) It starts But when i put it in neutral or any other gear its gone Then back in to drive and it starts It not in the engine area Its more louder on the passengers side kick panel. Its not LOUD but its like err wtf is that. Gearbox has only been serviced 6 months ago fluid is good. Any ideas? Could it be a engine mount??

Its only when the car is warm. Say after 10 minutes of driving Ill check for that tho. thanks

Your cat(s) might be stuffed. Happened to mine a few months ago.

Could be Harmonic Balancer, engine mounts, suspension bushes, etc. Suggest you get a qualified mechanic to check it for you. Might save your - or someone elses life.

it's prob the trans mount but get it looked at and engine mounts are probly rooted

pretty much most bushes would be rooted (not related to noise but better get them looked at)

i get exactly the same noise and it happens exactly as you have described, interesting you guys mention mounts and suspension, my noise just started as soon as i got it back from my mechanic about a 2 months ago, he replaced the engine mounts, all shocks front and rear and serviced the transmission.....im so confused!

Well if you happen to find out what it is ill be happy to know. But yeah i dont think it would be mount related either as it's when the car has warmed up. Yet to do more check's when i get a weekend off.

Also its only coming from the firewall back so it's not engine related.

go to a shop and have them put it up on the jacks, ask if you can go under your car with a mechanic. have a look allover. i have the same problem, though mines a manual... foud out its the muffler kitting on the frame.

yeah i agree here, iv had a listen under the bonnet with the engine running and its not coming from there. Im all full up with uni atm so havent got the time to try and get it fixed, but will def want too in the near future, likewise mate could u let me know if u find out what it is.

Sounds like it could be exhaust related if noise starts after warmed up. The flex joint in the exhaust system (under the middle of car) that has springs under its bolts has a stainless steel mesh donut shaped seal that wears and creates abit of slack. the vibes from it travel up the pipe and sound like its coming from the firewall or under the front seats.

I am leaning to exhaust. My extractors have 2 bolts either side at the end with gaskets going to check if they are loose I am also going to to check brake booster As this noise starts when foot is on the brake But saying that it also happens when it is in drive which is putting movement on the exhaust if you know what i mean. Putting car on ramps tomorrow will post back
