Hey
Does anybody know if any Holden dealers, or auto shops or anything in Adelaide are able to install factory rear parking sensors? I don't want the aftermarket ones, I want Holden ones which are colour coded to the car and integrated into the car properly.
Thanks heaps![]()
Mate, you'd have to ask Holden, obviously they still make replacement parts, but I'm not too sure if they'd still turn out the old VY factory-fit gadgets. Maybe current model VE ones would work? You can always colour match the paint if they no longer build commodores in your paint colour.
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
Hmmm I will have to ask them. The MAIN reason I don't want to go aftermarket is because I use a trailer a lot and with the Holden one, it deactivates once you have a trailer attached... With the aftermarkets, the bastard keels beeping and beeping cos it can see the trailer, but doesn't know it's connected.
Cheers anyway mate
Ben
You could always just put a switch near your trailer plug to turn them off when you have the trailer connected.
I did this on my VS wagon, worked fine as long as you remember to switch it back when you unhitch the trailer.
My switch was inside the tail gate near where i fitted the Beeper/sounder.
The factory rear park kits are anything up to and above around $400 where as the after market ones are usually under $100.

There are aftermarket kits that utilise the disable function. All it is is a magnetic switch in the trailer socket that activates when you open the socket door.

Try sourcing bumper with factory unit from a wrecker? A long shot maybe - especially if your car colour is less common.
"You want fast, reliable and cheap ? You'll find a Commodore out there that can provide any two out of those three!"
Not sure what holden are like, but half the ones we get in at work are unpainted, and we paint them to match the car

Then Holden has stopped pre-painting them then. I purchased the genuine kit in mid 2008 and the sensors were pre-painted. The kit cost nearly $500 which was bloody exxy, but it worked first go and fitted in a matter of minutes. The hardest part was drilling out the four holes in the bumper to exactly the correct size as I didn't have the correct sized drill bit.
As calaber said, when i purchased mine for my vz ss they came painted in the impulse blue. Was $350 for the set (trade) and fitting was straight forward.
When you order them they ask what colour you want and get them painted for you...
You use a hole saw not a drill bit![]()

The factory kit actually tells you that you need a Lumen spade drill bit, (Holden part number 92147946). but I didn't have the correct sized drill or hole saw. I drilled the largest diameter I had, about 13mm, then made up an arbour, with a piece of dowel slotted down the centre, wrapped in a strip of emery. Fitted to a cordless drill, the arbour made sure the holes were gradually ground out to a perfect fit. The kit actually refers to the size of hole (22.2mm), which is a lot smaller than any hole saw I had.
The kit is called a VT-VY RPA Kit. Part number is 92144863. The component list actually comprises two pages and one of them shows the kit code for every colour from VT-VY. Each colour has a different kit code.
I purchased the kit in August 2008. Back then, the list price was $452 and I got it for the trade price of $295 including GST.
Yeah it tells you to use a spade bit but we got better results from the hole saw.
Can use either really.

Hmmmmm thanks for the input guys.
I haven't asked Holden yet, but i'll send my local dealer an email I think. Also, with installation, how does it work? (ie. does it hook up to the reversing lights or something to know when it is in reverse?)
Cheers
