hey all, i pick up a vy ss tomorrow and just wondering if someone can tell me how many kw's they have
gen III is between 225 kw and 245kw depending on model with 465nm torque
it's a series 2 vy ss 03 model, what's a mafless tune set ya back and how much extra does it give
I was talking the kw when they roll out of the factory. They lose kw's over the years due to many factors so no one will be able to tell you how many killowatt any car has with or without mods (except for dyno). Mafless tune wont give you a great deal of extra power unless you have other accompanying mods.
Power and torque figures published by GMH for all 3 engines offered in the VY series are as follows:
Power KW Torque Nm
5.7 ltr Gen 111 V8 235 kw @ 5200 rpm 465 nm @ 4400 rpm
Series One Cars
5.7 ltr Gen 111 V8
Series Two Cars 245 kw @5600 rpm 465 nm @4000 rpm
Supercharged V6 171 kw @ 5200 375 nm @ 3000 ......... Figures for 95 octane PULP fuel only Series 1 and 2 cars
3.8 ltr
Standard V6
3.8 ltr ecotec 152 @ 5200 305 @3600 .......... Series 1 and 2 cars
Source: Holden Commodore Sedan and Wagon brochures - Series 1 and Series 11.
SERIES 11 Owners manual shows:
Gen 111 V8 .......performance exhaust: 245 kw @ 5600 rpm torque 465 nm 4000 rpm
........ Standard exhaust: 235 kw @ 5200 rpm torque 460 nm @ 4000 rpm

VY SS has 235 KW at the flywheel
Clubsport 245
Maffless tune with over the radiator cold air intake will set u back about $1300 and give you probably another 50rwkw, providing the exhaust is half decent, extractors, high flow cats and straight thru mufflers.
If you dont have the exhaust cost is generaly about $1700 for mild steel twin 2.5 inch.
Saves fuel depending if you dont flog it, more power and nicer to drive.
To compliment it change the diff gears to 3.9 and you will be loving life.
No GenR.
The "Series Two" VY cars fitted with the V8 ( Sv8... SS... and Calais V8) came with 245 KW @ 5600 rpm engines.
Pretty sure my owners manual says different.
Maybe the Series 2 is more.
They do this so they can sell the Clubby as an extra performance car.
My Monaro was stock and pulling 170ish at the wheels. After a full 2.5" exhaust was at 190 and after the mafless tune with Duspeed OTR it's now at 230 at the wheels and added 160 nm of torque. It wa a new car after the tune and well worth the $$$ spent. Chev did a great job on the tune.
Here is my old engine with an auto and big heavy mag wheels.
Stock with exhaust and OTR CAI maffless tune.
Chuck another 10rkwk on that if its got stock wheels.
The graph shows the difference between stock and exhaust with OTRCAI with maffless tune.
The person who tuned it is NOT my current tuner.

Thanks for clearing that up.
mine has 223rwkw with just a cat back exhaust and otr, that was the last time i got it dyno'd. since then ive put on extractors and modified the cat pipes. coming soon will be high flow cats and a mafless tune. then i should be looking at around the 260-270rwkw
yeh i dunno what the previous owner did to it b4 i got it apart from dual 2.5inch catback, but yeh i got 290.1rwhp which is roughly 216rwkw with only catback and otr. i was hell suprised that it didnt make more power as i can keep up with my mates sv8 which has 340rwhp(253rwkw).
you wont see anywhere near that without a cam change etc....Originally Posted by W45H1NGT0N
So how much power would a set of high flow cats and a mafless tune give me? something like 40rwkw more?
It sounds like from those figures you already have a maf tune.
If that were the case, I'd say 10, maybe 15 if your lucky for mafless and cats
EDIT: If your running an OTR you must be mafless now??
nah thats the weird thing, its not mafless tuned. it might have a maf tune though, and im running a custom otr with the maf and when i get a mafless tune the maf metre just gets replaced by silicone hose
I wood agree, 10-15 at the most and you must have already got a tune done like a MAF custom edit. With these standard bolt ons I would say 230 plus at the wheels. Upgrade the valve springs as the stock ones tend to chatter a bit might get you another 5kw. If you want the at 270 at the wheels better get a cam done.
All tuners are different, results will vary on any dyno but with stock mods mentioned above with a stock clutch I think you get some good results.
ok yeh that sounds about right haha
btw mines auto
just got a mafless tune and full twin 3 inch exhaust and it made 340hp which is about 253kw
