Hi all, first visit to this site, looks good so far.
i recently bought a vy s1 berlina, i like it alot. reeeal happywith it. HOWEVER... a few things are annoying me, such as:
fuel consumption (v6) the glovebox manual says the fuel capacity is 75 litres, i fill it to capacity and the low level light comes on after 58.2L used. i would have thought that 17L remaining would not deem it necessary to activate the low fuel light? i'm getting 610 km on highway using cruise, and 660 km highway without cruise. are my expectations too great? how far should a tank of regular ULP get me on the highway? i only do highway travel. how much further will premium ULP take me?
the six stack in dash cd player. one disc is stuck in, the display reads "cd error mech" or something. can i get it out somehow without replacing it?
headlights. as a night worker, i drive predominantly at night. the 60/55 bulbs are dull as. what are the best bulbs in other members opinions?
Fuel consumption depends mostly on how you drive but if you have a clogged up engine air cleaner element, generally a poorly serviced engine etc etc and run too low pressures in your tyres your consumption may also suffer.
You should be able to easily achieve (with highway driving) about 8.5 -9 litres per 100 km and less on the computer reading with gentle driving with the engine in a sound state of tune. Keep the tyre pressures at about 36 psi front and about 35 psi rear. You can run a bit higher but if so you may find the tyres tend to wear unevenly across the tread with the centre section wearing first - especially the rears.
Fill up with premium and see if it makes any difference in consumption on your engine. That's the only way you will know for sure.
I agree with Sean regarding fuel consumption, servicing and tyre pressures. The right tyre pressure can make a big difference to handling and economy. I run the same pressures as he has recommended and they definitely suit the car. Any harder and you might also experience a harsh ride as well as exaggerated wear in the centre of the tread.
I've always found the standard lights to be good on low beam and brilliant on high. Are your lenses yellowed and is the adjustment correct? Your lights might have been adjusted at some time and might be too low.
Regarding the CD player, it will probably be better to remove the unit and have it checked by an auto sound specialist. The facia can be removed to give access to the disc changer but going any further could be a problem unless you knew exactly what to do.
