Does the oil pressure sender unit near the oil filter simply switch on a dash light if oil pressure drops? I wonder is there a way to not only have this but also an electrical pressure guage?
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
Looking at the wiring diagram in the manual I have the oil pressure sender goews into the power train control module. I am not sure if it is a simple switch or if it is a transducer.
It is pressure switch. Pressure goes below a certain pressure level and the engine goes into limp home mode. Won't save the engine 90% of the time though

People usually fit a T section in Brass or Stainless Steel in the correct thread size where the existing sender unit screws in. This gives you the 2nd outlet for the sender unit on the pressure gauge.
There are some posts on this in this VY forum you can find with the search function.
(One problem here is that there is virtually no slack in the wiring to the existing sender unit -such as is the case in my car - and this could make fitting the current sender unit to the new T section difficult without modifying (lengthening) the wiring. So I would check that on your car first.)
You need a VDO T piece. 032- 023 or something like that. I extended the ops wire when I installed my autometer guage sender. Stock switch screws into the sode of the t piece and the am sender goes on the end

Ok thanks, then just run the oil pressure guage wire through the firewall to the new oil pressure guage, eh?

sorry to hijack your thread mate.. but do you know if you can put VZ Oil Pressure and Volts gauges onto a VY? (the ones that sit ontop your centre cluster) ?? they are electrical.. is there any wires in there that they can connect to or does a new line have to be run?

"Wait are we still talking about cars!?"
Yep, the autometer sender earths through the oil filter adapter housing so only 1 wire (sender) gojng back to the gauge. The other 2 are for lighting. Other brand senders have 2 wires from the sender so one is earth and the other is the sender signal.
The t piece you need is a VDO part number 230.032. Be sure to use teflon thread tape on all fittings and don't delete the factory op switch whatever you do
