    Default Lsd

    Hey Guys
    I was down a dirt road and did a little skid when coming out of the gate and both wheels seemed to leave a skid trail.
    Its a Series 2 Berlina
    Just wondering if it has Lsd?

    if you have a hoist available or you can even jack the back off the ground spin one of your wheels with your hand.
    if both spin at the same time you my friend have an lsd, if they don't, it's single peggers for you.
    my mates has no lsd in his xr6, but sometimes in the dirt that same thing happens to him, strange

    Just lifted the rear up and when i spun one wheel the other rear wheel spun the other way? Does that mean it has lsd or just single peggers

    If the LSD option is fitted there is a metal tag attached to the diff filler plug with "LSD" written on it. ( There is no "LSD" identifier on the white sticker on the side of the diff housing.)

    it means you have a open wheeler / single pegger

    You will find that when there isn't much force on the back wheels, like on dirt or grass, both wheels will spin even if you have a single spinner

    not always true with the conical lsd diff fitted to v6 holdens. as there is insufficient torque applied to the lsd clutches from manually spinning one wheel by hand. I have an lsd G80 option
    fitted to my ute, and mine works like this. jack up the ute. If you spin the wheel forward the other wheel doesn't move, but spin the wheel in reverse and the opposite wheel should go in the opposite direction.

    on mechanical lsd's, such as that of a ford. then the before mentioned method will work. only way to tell with a holden is check the VIN plate and look for the axel code. most v6's are GU4, some say G80.
    if in doubt, check for the LSD plate on the filler of the diff. also call holden and quote your VIN number and ask them to check on their system whether it has the g80 option.

    also i have my LSD for sale. just upgraded to a VZ SS LSD. I only want $100 for it. is a straight bolt in swap.

    hmmm i seriously think mine has an lsd, did the hoist trick and the other wheel doesnt move but i can almost always get 2 wheels spinning?

    wouldnt fit a vx would it??

    yes it will. will fit VX upwards.

    needs a bracket kit for a VT though.

    sure, It was factory fitted to the ute in 2003. Whereas the ute served with the caloundra city council for 4 years or 119000k's. I am the 2nd owner of the ute, I serviced the diff at 125000 at Beecham Holden - Caboolture as per the service book recommendation.

    It is a 3.08 LSD diff, or GU4 with G80 option. The internals are fine, but there is a slight bit of movement in the crown and pinion gear. I've been told this was normal for it's age. currently 174000k's.
    Rather than pay holden $1500 plus to have it look at, and maybe relapped I just bought a 80000k vz ss LSD instead. which is a straight swap.

    so for a $100 you may have to spend $200-$300 on it to reduce the movement of the crown and pinion. the lsd however is tight. REAL tight! and if you like to put your foot down around a corner, it won't fail to satisfy you!

    ok sweet

    well total max it will cost me $200 for the freight and part which is heaps cheaper then other diffs i have been looking at

    just payed $2500 on panel damage so money is tight! i have been told my diff is gonna go and plus i want an lsd

    i will inbox you my email address so just send the freight quote to that

    I found out i had an lsd when i pulled out of my girlfriends parents joint and left 2 lines 15 meters long down the road :-\ they weren't happy.

    I told em i was checking if i had a lsd tho :-D
