    Default ls1 exhaust

    Hey Guys
so ive got a dual 2.5inch catback, HSV headers with modified cat pipes on my ute and was thinking about replacing the centre mufflers with hot dog mufflers or just completely removing them.

What kinda change would there be in the exhaust note and performance?

    cheers

    Will definitely be louder.
Does your current catback have a rear resi.
Might be too loud with out any form of centre muffling.

My old man has a single 3" with ony a small rear resonator. Its not loud at all in the front seats. Back seat drone is fairly ordinary. Exterior volume is suprisingly quiet. Its loud, but not what you would expect, boys in blue have never given him any drama either.

I was going to do the same on my LS! take the centre dual pipe muffler out but apparently it worsens the performance & also you lose the crossover function to balance the pressures in each pipe bank. Even the top range cat back sysytems retain the centre muffler - dont do it...

lol... It doesn't make any difference.
Dads car still goes as well as ever. Gets good fuel economy too. The original systems are a joke. Squash down to less then 2" in some places and the mufflers are overkil.

Theoreticly the big single should have less bottom end torque due to less back pressure in the systme. But anything is better the the original system.
For the record my SS has a twin 2.5" Xforce system with two mufflers underneith and no rear reso and its loud as hell.

If u take the centre mufflers out it will drone to the point where u won't enjoy driving your car anymore. You'll also lose power. I have a 2.5" stainless steel xforce with the centre mufflers and rear resi and it's loud as when I put my foot down.. Partly due to having 2 sureflow 100cpsi cats. If your looking to just make it louder.. Change your cats or take your mufflers out.. But if you want power and noise spend a little money and get a stainless xforce with 100cpsi high flow cats.. The saying you get what you pay for is spot on when it came to my zorst, but in the end it's your car so do as you please

My old mans exhaust is quieter then my Xforce exhaust, and he doesn't even have any mufflers!!
Save for a small resonator after the diff.

It certainly doesn't decrease the power output from standard either. He fitted some HSV extractors from a GTS and had 2.5" pipe welded onto his cats. (Cut the cats off, cut them back so the hole was 2.5" and welded on new pipe. Not the greatest but for $30 its better then nothing)
