If you are not interested in power and only noise then just remove the rear resonator and fit straight pipe, will save you a lot of money.

You wont get it to sound right without spending money.
Starard manifolds are crap and the pipes are about 2 1/4" at best.

Taking a reso out will just make it sound like a droney fart.

This is my exhaust system on my VY.
YouTube - SS pacemaker exhaust, Pacemaker Tri-y extractors.

Will cost you the better part of $2500.

I tried to doing it cheap too,
    http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/...-vy-ii-ss.html

There's a sound file there somewhere of the cheap Xforce exhaust I had. Which isn't worth the time or money IMO.

ok was talking to a mate that works at place that manufactures exhausts he said he can get me a 2.5 inch catback exhaust for $250 and if i want high flow cats they will be $100 each so looking at $450 all up will the cats make much difference in sound compared to stock ones or would it be more performance that would help

When it comes to Exhausts I reckon it's worth it spending that extra $$$. I have Pacemaker Tri-Y extractors, into a twin 2.5 stainless steel xForce with 2 sure flow Ballistic 100cpsi cats and I'm telling you now when I put my foot down it's ear piercing lol but when I'm cruising you can't even hear ot which I wanted and it doesn't drone one bit! I even have both sets of mufflers on too and it's still so loud when I punch it. All together I spent about $2000 but it's worth every penny

Hi soop, I'm in the process of getting a vy ute, but only an S pack. Would it be worth slapping your system on a 6 ?

Same here and the D/F pipes sound great, do not drone and enable ALL ponies to be released by the engine.

    cheers

I agree you will probably lose a bit of power on a stock ls1 with a twin 3".

Pfffft, nothings to big to handle for the LS1.. i actualy noticed a slight increase on throttle responce. i'v had it on the dyno: OTR, Cam, Maffles custom tune and DF exhuast= 372WHP

plus i got the twin 3inch with the intention of putting a blower on her down the track, which will be start of next year now!!!!

if i just bought my ute/car. i'd chuck a twin 3inch, cam her, tune her to suit the mods. you would be quite surprised with power ouitput. think my last dyno run speaks for herself.
but in saying that, a complete standard LS1 would be to much for one. once you put the twin 3inch, the power bug kicks on HAHA
