hey all i got my hands on a set of near new recaro wrx buckets off a friend and seein as my seat squeaks in every known plce possible i was considerin wackin them into my car and are a million times more comfortable, i figured itd be a pretty cool fit- up... was jus wonderin ppls thoughts and opinions on how hard, worth doin etc... fabrication and weldin bits etc isnt an issue as i work in a body shop, thnks
Sick mate - definately worthwhile, go for it - just be sure to post up pics! I did a similar conversion in a VL and enquired about legality - I was told by an engineer that as long as you use the existing mounting points on the car you are legal - but consider running it by your insurance and mains roads ...
Also - try a 'dry fit' before committing too much time/effort - remove your seats and sit the new seats in position... there's your first photo op![]()
"You want fast, reliable and cheap ? You'll find a Commodore out there that can provide any two out of those three!"
i agree with Fletch_QLD" i'd like to see photos of it too, not a bad idea my friend.
just a few things to consider is run it by your insurance and main roads, if they say its all good then your sorted. if they say go see an engineer, ask them (main roads) for a list of engineers in the area and go see them with your idea and then should be able to help you out.
want to see more then a typical commodore fitted with an exhuast, then check my thread out... link broken cuase i dont own a tuff car, i just made it up...
yeh will post up photos when i do it in nxt couple weeks now for sure =) i think an hope its gonna turn out pretty cool, ill sus out the engineering side of things but theres bout to be someways round it
these are my seats =) will be attempting passenger seat at least on my day off on tuesday so will keep yu all updated...
Was going to do this with my Skyline as I used to have a Subaru WRX and the seats are so comfy, travel 8 hours in them and feel like you just got in them. I made some frames for carbon seats I had. I would personally by some subframes that fit say a cobra seat and fit the holden. Then bastardise the frame to suit the WRX seats.
I tried to go the other way and fit SS seats into an older Liberty (late 90s). Problems I had:
* SS seat was a lot wider... so the Suby seats may look a bit narrow for you
* Rail system is totally different. Subaru bolts to the tranny tunnel on the inner side, the Commodore to the floor, so your rail setup will need to be a hybrid
* The rail to seat connection is also very different
* The seatbelt receptacles are both mounted to the seats and are different designs, so you may need some custom belts from Klippan or something to clip into the Suby receptables.
In the end I wussed out and just bought a seat out of a imported Legacy and fitted it in![]()
