vy ss knocking noise

got an annoying knocking sound coming from engine or gearbox at idle and gets a bit louder when i put it in gear its not very loud but loud enough to think WTF is that, cant hear it when driving just at idle anyone had similar problem and if so what did the problem end up being the car is under warranty so will take it back soon to see what they say just after some feedback so i can run some ideas past them seeing as i bought car from ford dealership they might not know a great deal about them

what fuel do you put in it, that e10 can cause an engine knock in some cars. try high octane if it is still there ####s me

just put normal unleaded in it i live in ballarat so dont think they have that e10 stuff yet the car is an 02 model with 79000 km on clock car is stock no mods

Is its a fast dull clicking noise or does it sound like a two bits of wood hitting each other gently?

its not overly fast and probably sounds more like the wood hitting each other

Maybe a bit of piston slap or gudgeon noise, does it go away when the motor is up to temperature, the LS1's can tend to be a bit on the noisy side when cold, from what I have read some also develop a bit of lifter noise. They are also a bit touchy as to what oil they like, some seem a bit quieter on one brand and viscosity and another car on the same brand and viscosity can be a bit noisy, there have been noise issues with some LS1's from VTII right through to VYII. GM got on top of the issue by around VYII, they went through 2 revised piston designs trying to fix noise and oil consumption issues. In saying all that there is a guy on the LS1 forum with a VE SS with the 6lt L98 engine that has been diagnosed with piston slap and is awaiting a new engine, so there is still the odd car with the noise issue even in VE. You should get a workshop familiar with LS1's to have a listen to it on cold start up and go from there.
Depending on what the noise is, if it is a bit of piston slap or gudgeon noise it is not the end of the world as there are cars out there that are a bit noisy but still run for several hundreds of km without any trouble.

Gearbox mate, how many kms on it? Usally the import shaft bearings clunk n rattle alot on the T56 trannys. i had the same noise and a mates brother vy ss has it too

Maybe check th engine mounts and maybe gearbox mounts....
That type of noise was on my vp commo till i got them replaced. now its fine

thanks for the feedback will be taking it back to dealer the car has a 3 year premium warranty that i paid 700 bucks for and it covers everything its only done 79 000 km so not much for an 02 model problem i got its a ford dealer where i bought the car so they wouldnt know much about the ls1 and i have to get it serviced there 4 the warranty so i need to find out what oil they put in it so will let you know what they say after i book it in

Hey festa1234, it seems my VYSS is making a similar noise. Did you end up taking your car back to the dealer? did they fix the problem?
