Hello,
I have a VY commodore wagon, and the key buttons will not unlock/lock the car. The key works fine in the door lock and the car runs fine. The locksmith replaced the key head, but could not program it to the BCM, so i took it to Holden , same problem. They told me the BCM was faulty.
So ive just replaced the BCM / PCM and key head with same model - 210 mid (no programming required) and its exactly the same -car runs fine, buttons still dont work.
Dont know what else to do ?, any techys out there that can help ?
cheers
Does the interior light come on when you hit the unlock button? That would indicate that the BCM is actually receiving a signal from the key head. If it does come on, check wiring I guess from BCM to central locking actuator. If it doesn't come on, then yeah, bigger issue, maybe the RF transmitter/receiver.. not sure if that is incorporated inside the BCM however (which has been replaced....)
i didnt actually check the interior light, however loooking up the schematic on the VY, i eventually found the solar sensor / remote receiver, and figured it had to be this... Sure enough, i removed it from the centre of the dash, under the windscreen , and there was a tiny amount of corrosion, replaced it for $20 from wreckers, and everything works now - beauty !!
Given all of the problems that people have with central locking, keys, etc... it would always pay to check this RF receiver before replacing any BCM - which Holden wanted to charge me $500 for !!..and it still wouldnt have fixed the problem
cheers

Yeah for sure.. and a good way of checking to see if the signal was received is that interior light.... so you at least know if its a central locking prob or not.
Well done Bolty - and thanks for sharing that tip!
"You want fast, reliable and cheap ? You'll find a Commodore out there that can provide any two out of those three!"
hmmm my bcm must be buggered then..about 6months ago i got a new windscreen fitted and my remote locking has never worked since. i replaced the reciever and it still didnt work so must be bcm![]()
bcm is normally only replaced to program a key if the code for it is lost
like if someone fits the bcm etc from another car...
and alot of times its just the remote battery which require new key head..
the reciever doesnt normally "corrode" unless you have a leak... but if all is working fine then what do ya say but
if i have this fault come in i will look into it for a cause to the corrosion but in 5 years ive never had the reciever corroded unplugged yes but not corroded
guess im lucky then?
