    Default Trailer set up

just wondering if anyone can help me on my 2003 vy. I tried wiring up a tow bar socket by hacking at the wires but i still cannot get brake lights. i also just got told today that the little white plug by the back light on the drivers side is a harness for the trailer. Could someone please explain more and where can i get one from and is this the easier way to fit the towbar socket?

You tried wiring up your own trailer lights harness??

I believe every commodore has one, its a black strap in your boot under the carpet.

Not every commodore comes with one - unless it has a towbar from factory. The harness plugs in which is better than hacking wires. I wouldn't think the harness would cost too much from holden? I have seen them on ebay for like $20. On the drivers side in the boot, the taill lights plug in to the loom. To connect the towing harness, just unplug the tail lights and plug the harness in to the loom - then the other plug on the harness plugs in to the tail lights.

are you using a test light to find the brake light wire? and what are you using to splice into the harness?

There is no reason you can't get the brake light from the passenger side - just a case of tapping in to the correct wire - ie, the same one that powers the passenger side brake light.

-- I have just been out to my boot and checked - the blue wire with the red stripe is the brake wire ( passenger side, '03 VY Calais)
