Fairly new to the forum, Sorry if this same topic has already been posted in a thread, didn't manage to find too much on the subject.
I've just bought a 2003 VY Commodore S2 and I can't stand the black door molds, was wondering am I better off getting a professional to take these off or is it simple enough for someone with moderately low car knowledge to do?
Would appreciate any feed back, thanks.
I havn't done mine, though there is a heap of info on this site on this topic.
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
Any links or references that you could show me to? I'm pretty bad with navigating myself on this site as I only just found the forum today
Okay will do, cheers for the feed back mate
Thanks heaps mate, got it.
Cheers for the advice, had a look at it yesterday as one of the side molds is kind of loose at one end, Predicted i wouldn't have the right tools to remove the excess rubber and glue without ####ing it up
you wont #### it up if you take it slow.
i did it to my vy and it took me 3 days pretty much 5 hour days lol. i rushed it in the middle and got a small scratch or two on the door, but then slowed down and did the rest ok.
youll need a heat gun, 1L of wax and grease remover, a plastic scrapper and alot of rags.
heat the strip up and tear it off, using the plastic scrapper behind to get it off (the easy part)
then slowly with your finger nails and rag or a good plastic scrapper rub the glue left over with wax and grease remover until it disapears, it wont go straight away so keep going, and as i said it will take ages, but so worth it
paying someone to do it is a good idea except they will charge like 400$ (what i got quoted :|) and they can do just as good a job as you
an alternative is to pay someone to paint them the same colour as your car (about the same price) but its up to you, if you have that kinda money to throw on paying someone to take them off then go for it,
look on my ride thread as i went through it in more detail if you want,
good luck
Looking to buy VE super sport replica's
Really appreciate the suggestion mate, had a go last night with my mates heat gun just on the smallest strip next to the front right wheel and it came off within 2 minute but the hardest part was getting rid of the glue/rubber and such behind it, going to guy buy 1l of wax and grease remover today then hopefully get started on the other doors. Good to know that someone who's done it a similar way im doing it did it successfully haha, thanks heaps mate.
