Hi, I did a search through some of the old posts, but couldn't find the answers I'm really after.
In short, brought a Vy II Maloo (yay). I did a quote through AAMI, and their happy to slug me $2700 per annum, fully comprehensive.
My questions are -
Is that reasonable ?
Are there better insurers ?
Is there somewhere that would look at a discount if I insured the VE and the Maloo?
I'm looking for whether I'm on the right track, or should I be spending the money elsewhere?
There's lots of factors that determine insurance premiums eg. age, postcode, history and many others. We don't know all these details so it's hard to say if what you've been quoted is fair or not. Your best bet is to ring around heaps of insurers and get their prices.
well our family are with racv and we get discounts for every car we have on our policy so give them a try
Just Car are worth a try. AAMI are usually the cheaper of the large insurance companies though so GL
Alrighty, cheers. Just for informations sake , Male, 39, not one crash, no ticket, no suspension, no court thing on my record. Cleanskin all the way. Not sure how I managed that...
Almost describes meBut I pay $600/year Fully Comp. for my VY SII SuperCharged Calais through Suncorp. Your quote seems a little high to me - but I imagine it varies between states? As with all things, don't sign anything till you have at least 3 quotes - and always ask "is there anything I can do to bring the price down?" - ie, fit alarm, garage every night, move suburbs, a reference from local cop shop ? When I first got insurance - 20yrs ago - I got a letter from my boss saying I had driven company cars without incident for 5 yrs - this saved me 60% off the original quote....
good luck
"You want fast, reliable and cheap ? You'll find a Commodore out there that can provide any two out of those three!"
Great goggly moogly, that's a hell of a difference! Ok, definitely time to shop around.
Why not try Shannons??? Your age and record will be a bonus and they look after their customers extremely well, as I found out last month - unfortunately.
cheers

I've found calling insurance companies to be better, with my commodore i got 2 quotes through AAMI best online after 3 tries was $1500 and 1st try on the phone was $1100, went with that then somehow got refunded $220.
if your over 25 cant beat shannons
Yep 3 for shannons, they understand a bit about cars and allow you to hav mods. Bob.
Cool, I'll give shannons a call too. Appreciate all the feedback, most constructive
I just bought a VY commodore. It's only an exec with 20's and lowered with SS bodykit. Real insurance were the best by far even with the mods. They even insured my 22 year GF on the policy and only cost me around $600 a year. I think shannons over charge because of they a specialty insurer. If you can get your performance car insured elsewhere with any mods I would just go to a normal insurer.
thats more then what i pay.. im with Just Cars Insurnce. $2200.00 a year. goes down every year till your a rateing 1. Im currently rateing 3
i drive a highly modded VY SS ute. 372HP at the wheels. im 20years old. live in QLD. superchargering her next month and only pay an extra $35 a year for the supercharger.
i rang everyone and they all turned me down when i told them age and mods... HAHA Just car is the only crowd that would insure me.
want to see more then a typical commodore fitted with an exhuast, then check my thread out... link broken cuase i dont own a tuff car, i just made it up...
I got quoted for $1100 for my car through Just Cars but $600 for the same cover from real... But some people with highly nodded cars don't have that choice
Ok, just the conclusion, after being able to convince Shannons that Im a car enthusiast ( thanks just commodores) they covered the lot, plus the mods ( lowered suspension, 3 inch exhaust and headers, mags) for 1080 a year. Plus, insure the sv6 for a discount. In my book, that's a sweet deal, so I'd like to thank you all very much.
And as I said earlier, they do look after you and will insure almost any mod you make to the car.
Well done.

Wow sounds like I'm getting a good deal. I'm 22 Full insurance with window replacement and the other little add-ons like free rental if my car is in a crash blah blah blah. $1012 a year with $500 excess.
That's through NRMA.

Just so you know, Just Car insurance is a subsidiary of AAMI ... basically the different business models are targeted at certain demographics and are kept separate to make Just Car's policies look more attractive to younger drivers (or hoons as they'd like to call us)
Example:
In most cases, AAMI wont insure a 20 year old to drive a v8
Just Car Insurance most definitely will (at a cost!) and your policy will have AAMI written all over it.
Sure as hell, when you ring AAMI, the nice looking girl from the ads will make a friendly recommendation that you contact Just Car.... this way, because you have already been rejected by AAMI, you are less likely to be worried about the exorbitant quote from Just Cars and more the fact that they will insure you.
Smart play really....bastards.
