Hello all, I have an issue with my 6spd manual in my SV8 VY sedan. 104k original clutch I believe.
The g'box is fine in all forward gears but wont engage reverse, it almost goes in but not quite and the gears grind when the clutch is let out, telling me some adjustment is out of spec, it was going in OK last week but has just done a 2000km drive North and back to Perth.
The reverse gear selection has never been perfect, it has been a little out of adjustmnent since I got the car 18 mths ago, but always went into gear before.
Is it something I can sort myself?

Hello all, an update on the Tremec problem of no reverse gear.
Had the gearbox out myself, took it to a gearbox man, all the reverse gears/ synchro/ selector parts in a bad way, high cost to repair and rebuild not worth it so am getting a rebuilt one with a full warranty for 2 grand. Hard lesson to learn, if the car you are looking at buying has any issues with shifting gears, leave it alone and look at other cars.
Also the oil was dirty and some minor surface rust on shafts etc from condensation, another lesson, change the oil regularly even if you arent doing big km in the car to prevent or reduce the condensation problem especially if you live in cold areas, same goes for the diff.
Thanks for looking at my thread. JonesyVT
Jonesy most people with a T56 these days that have problem simply just buy a whole new box as it works out just as cheap as a propper freshen up.
At least then everything is new too.
Thats just the way it is.
