Don't know much about the ls1 clutch system but my clutch is first starting to grab when my pedal has just about reached the top. Took it to the mechanics (as I still Havnt gotten a little roughness fixed and they all think it's tune related) anyway on top of my car running rough my clutch has decided it's ready to throw the towel in just before i go overseas. Reason for my post is I would just like all your opinions on what sort of clutch I should look at getting.. I'd like a heavy duty one. Any ideas on what I should be looking at and what sort of pricing I'll be up for?? I used to have an Exedy in my 5ltr but Havnt heard of anything for them in ls1s.. I heard textralia clutches are good?? Anyway all opinions are very much appreciated.
Cheers

"Wait are we still talking about cars!?"
If your going to use a heavy duty clutch and give it a hard time now and then, a Textralia Z-Grip is the only way to go.
Others may say "extreme clutch" and this and that, but they are no where as good for the money.
Textralia, ls1 clutch, australia clutch, best clutch, 0z700, Z grip
Their web site us under development but there is a free call number if you wish to know anything.
I believe the price is around $1300 for one of these clutches.
Dont settle for second best IMO.
Remember second place is first loser
Im pushing 600HP thru one and no problems at all.
Facts are most performance clutches are remodified standard clutches but Textralia know what they are doing.
I heard something about Mal Wood clutches or something too? Are they any good? I won't be doing any more work to my car, and when we say a hard time that being giving it a squirt or two whilst street driving as this is my everyday car.. My 5ltr clutch made my left calf bigger than my right because the pedal was so hard lol I want something that won't be hard as a rock either.. What's the pedal like on the Textralia 'Z' grip and what's the difference between the 'Z' grip and 'X' grip??
Cheers

Mal wood are ok for street use too.
If your not going big HP or racing etc probably better off going for the X Grip.
Difference is that the Z-Grip has Carbon Ceramic on both sides of the clutch disc.
X-Grip has Carbon Ceramic one side and High Performance Organic facing on the other.
This does away with the typical Shudder that a Z-Grip can get at times tho i hardly notice it in mine.
Clutch pedal is not much harder than stock, it is slightly heavier but nothing a grandma couldnt use.
Mal wood are good. My brother had one in his ss and he ran the strip without any problems. Plus, it was excellent for street use.
How are the Mal Woods price wise? And the Textralia X grip how much would I be looking at for one of them? Product only?

Best bet is ring Tex, as i know their kit comes with the flywheel as well.
You may be able to get your old one surface ground and just buy a pressure plate and clutch disk as well but you would have to find out wether the flywheel is the same width for spacing and slave cylinder tollerances.
Ring him, its a free call.
Will do. Thanks for the help boys.

i got a Tex Z grip couple of months ago. i would recomend Tex over any other brand for an LSx car.
put it this way: [this is what Peter told me, he's the owner of tex]
X for girls, good if your not chasing big HP and want to keep it has a good daily street car. and your misses/mum can still drive the car
Z for men, if your chasing big HP and still want the standard pedal feel.
when you buy a clutch from Tex, you get preasure plate, clutch plate and fly wheel. dont use the standard flywheel, as they are realy thin.
also you may as well chuck a Ripshifter on while the box is out for the clutch replacement. the rip shifter makes so much differnce for a smoother shift.
want to see more then a typical commodore fitted with an exhuast, then check my thread out... link broken cuase i dont own a tuff car, i just made it up...
i had a z grip in my old vy ss. if i were you id fit a new slave cylinder, spigot bearing, braided clutch line and a remote bleeder kit too aswell as a rip shifter. the clutch kit is $1450, rip is $500 i think, about $250 for both the braided lines, cant remember how much the slave was?? and the spigot was $92.
my opinion is if you use the car as a daily and dont visit the drag strip and or circut then dont get the z grip, try the mal wood option 3 clutch or npc?? clutch. there is some good reveiws on ls1 forum. if the car is taken to the strip/circut often the go for the z grip as it loves to be thrashed. mt wife couldnt hold the pedal in with the z either as it was too hard for her, she could drive it but if she had to stop she would go to neutral and let it out. some shudder, some dont, its just a lucky dip on that. you also have to adjust your driving style to suit the clutch, it dont like to be slipped. the good think is its clamping force, i could side step it from stand still in 3rd and light it up no probs with only 249rwkw from only bolt ons
try to get to a few workshops and see if they have any cars availible to test out or meet with some other forum members if possible.
just for the record id go a z again, just letting you know the good and bad
