sup fellas? I'm new to the forums, been trying to sell my VY Commodore Executive.
now the odometer dropped out ages ago and i never bothered to do anything about it because i didnt plan on selling it. now that im trying sell it i thought i better get it fixed.
1st me old man tried to solder the wires, this seemed to work.... for a little while. ha. kept dropping out here and there so i though i'd buy another odometer (which happened to be from a VZ commodore, but we were told it will work with the VY's) only issue is, now the fuel gauge works backwards (empty shows full, full shows empty) and the air bag light keeps coming on.
just wondering if any of you's have had similar issues and how did you resolve them?
Best regards,

You need a VY series 1 cluster to work with your VY series 1.
If you use a VY series 2 or VZ cluster, the fuel gauge works backwards as you have found. There is no fix for this unless you change your fuel sender for a VY2 unit, or get the correct cluster!
If the cluster is looking for side/passenger airbags and you don't have them, it will also throw an airbag error like you have found.
The cluster will also need to be programmed with a tech2 computer for the right engine (V6 or V8), transmission (auto/5sp/6sp), diff ratio, number of airbags and obviously the odometer reading. Holden will be able to do all of that, except the the odometer reading. They will only program the odometer reading on clusters that have less then 100km on them. It however can be done, Phreddy from ASR-Audio (a sponsor of this forum) knows how to do it.
This is just one of those confusing bloody things that the factory does with model changes. You have to wonder why they would change things like fuel senders and instrument clusters between models so similar as the VY and VZ, and even between Series 1 and 2. I doubt it had anything to do with the engine changes. Probably more likely to be cost savings - found a cheaper supplier or somesuch.
