*sigh* in order so far -
Brakes, rotors, headers, leads, cat, rims, small dent in the rear which is starting to rust, rims again with perpetually flat wheel, bushes, head unit, speakers...
And this weeks addition? The f'cking rear passenger wheel studs, only got two left.
My running repair bill so far is 15,000, not counting whatever today is going to sting me for. And I haven't even had a chance to open it up or, dare I say it, hoon in it yet, this is all the previous owners sh*t I'm paying for, with his dodgey RWC and all. Seriously should have just brought a new one, irritating blind spot and all.
So running a challenge, I'll chuck a $100 donation to the forums in the name of the person who manages to pick what will break next.
Air conditioner
im going to go with water pump... just to make things interesting lol
Heater tap. Worst thing on a vy...
hmm, plastic trim on the side of the bottom part of the drivers seat...
another wheel stud.
Wow, how many k's are on that thing? You have certainly had a bit of bad luck... my guess would be steering wheel audio controls next
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
Def the battery!! they always go unexpected

Haha, she had 140,000 on it when I brought it, not really fussed about that cause had a regular service and ITS A MALOOOOOOO.oooo.oo. The guy was pretty up front with the damages and quirks of the car, faulty ABS light (fixed), dent in the back from previous owner trying to reverse...into a jet ski? and some other stuff - one of which was already a broken audio control on the steering wheel lol.
But the control has been fixed already, that was an easy one, of course now I've nullified it anyway by installing a aftermarket head unit.
The Gearbox
Your will to Drive a Holden
if its an auto im surprised it hasnt gone yet
Haha gold!
With 140,000 kms it's time to sell the car - not buy one. If you are buying vehicles with about 130,000 kms plus on them you are more often than not buying a repair bill unless you have an exceptional one with lots of replacement items. With $15000 spent on repairs surely that's what has happened here.
Keep a close eye on the radiator (with all it's plastic bits) because if that has not been replaced from when the vehicle was new it may be the next item to go.
[ The majority of cars are not well maintained because the owners are clueless or careless. They just want to get into them and drive them and work on the run it till it breaks maintenance plan. Many don't even check their coolant levels, oil levels and other fluids and think you don't need to do anything between book service schedules. Some also think tyres will somehow self inflate because they rarely check them. They drive carelessly over speed bumps at 60 km per hr and into pot holes and wonder why the suspension parts fail in the car because in their mind they last forever, especially the shocks. They whinge and wine about having to spend money on scheduled maintenance, which usually is not done on time anyway and some will skip it occasionally. Then they complain that the neglected car is no good and they "won't be buying one of those again". I offered to help someone the other day with a flat battery in an Astra. The owner did not even know how to release the bonnet and open it. Obviously just another well maintained car. ]
^^^^Well put Sean. I didn't know you knew my wife, LOL.
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
hahahahaha classic sean
Haha, shuddup Sean! Your trying to make logical sense to a guy who only had to see the words "HSV" and "MALOO" and forgot everything else (like....common sense). But up here, that many k's is nothing really, one bloody road in and out of here, it's easy to rack up that mileage.
Radiator was already replaced...although, I might just take another look at it. And you know what, I'm never going to touch that bloody glovebox, you guys keep saying it will break so much!
As a quick side note, Ultratune replaced the studs and she lives again. For now. Weeks not out yet.
I bet on your mind to go next.
Since I bought my car I have replaced, all shocks, springs and bushes, all brakes, radiator, engine mounts, rebuilt engine, battery.
And at the present moment I need to fix, gearbox, drivers seat foam, brakes (again), diff bush, diff center, and work on a few more things.
Cars, love 'em.

This is a bit off-thread but Sean's post made me think. I purchased a VR Berlina in 1998 with 179k on the clock. I sold it five years later with 335k's registering. The car had not been particularly well cared for by the previous owners. The paint was flat and dull, with a large discolouration on the boot, the exhaust had a hole worn in it from driving over a speed bump or driveway and the auto was not the quietest. However, everything worked.
During the life of the car in my hands, the only mechanical work required on the engine was a new thermostat, water pump, rocker cover gaskets and plugs. The auto was home-serviced every 20k. Because of its age, I changed the oil and filter at 5k intervals instead of 10k as the book said. At 280k, I rebuilt the entire suspension, with new bushes front and rear. Other replaced items included shocks, springs, battery and power steering pump. The only other part to fail, which I didn't replace because the car was sold, was a cracked exhaust manifold. The steering rack and auto were never replaced or repaired in my time because they didn't need to be.
Because I did all my own work, labour cost was never an issue. That car gave astonishing service over the period I had it and every part that needed replacing was a high-wear component that would normally die on a car with that mileage. I had it resprayed a couple of years before I sold it and it looked like a new car but because of an arrangement with the panel beater, the respray was completely free whilst the car had minor collision damage repaired (which was the other driver's fault).
I don't agree that a car is ready for big expense at 130k. My VY is just short of that distance and runs perfectly, but then, I'm not in Sean"s "typical owner" category, so I suppose I can expect many more reliable k's out of her yet.
Maybe you should of floogged it...alot seem to last if the get the cobwebs blown out once a week...I reckon a headlight bulb will go next...
