How long since the system was flushed?

Mine used to do this about 2 months ago - turned out that the thermostat had packed it in.

Take the car to a radiator/cooling specialist and have them pressure test the cooling system. No value in just trying to guess what the problem is - might result in you cooking the engine. Very expensive then !!

Benboy is right i'd probably take it to a specialist, could be a number of things. Radiator cap, thermostat, heater tap, water pump but also make sure your using the right coolant as there are a few different types.
