Can anyone tell me, what side the drive wheel is on a V6 VY commodore, as I have 2 tyres, 1 new 1 1/2 worn & want to put the new tyre on the side that get the most wear? make sense? I dont want to have to do a burnout to see which tyre leaves the mark..lol.
On a normal differential drive goes to the wheel with the least resistance.
So if turning left the cars weight transfers to the right wheel which makes the left wheel light and therefore will spin easier.
Opposite happens if turning right.
If you talk to a tyre expert they will usually tell you that the left side tyres wear more than the right because most roads camber to the outside which for Australia is the left side so it is natural that most weight transfer when driving straight ahead is onto the left side of the car.
But in all cases differences would be minimal and would usually take thousands of kilometres to show any patterns of wear to emerge.

Do a skid on the grass hahaha
Silver Certified.
All the single spinners I have had spin on the right (drivers side) when going in a straight line. Also my right (drivers side) tiers always wear out faster.
My Drivers side has most worn out, I can do a stand still and spin both..
On dirt.. I can skid up the road with one bald tyre and one thats still fairly new.. and still spin both... I dont have a LSD..
SurfWagon has a good explanation..
P.S if you drive with responsibility ... Tyres should last years, the front tyres should be the first to be replaced. :P
The Left Rear is always the tyre that wears the most in "Normal" driving (rear wheel drive vehicles). If you drive in an area of lots of roundabouts its the Left Front tyre that wears a lot too, along with the Left Rear tyre. Your spare tyre & wheel should always be configured to fit to Left side of car if running Unidirectional tyres, because statistics say thats the side you will need it on.!!!!! DaDa!!!!!!!!!!
Basically, you're turning right more often and loading up the outside wheels.
