    Default Engine ReBuild - 5.7L V8

    Hi Guys,

I’ve recently bought a 5.7L V8 out of a (VY SS) from my old man.
The engine has only done approx 20,000km, but anyway he sold it to me coz he has cracked the block....

I was wondering if it would be possible to buy a new block and transfer all the crap from the old block. If so where is a good place to buy a new block? I’m pretty sure the engine is a Ls1 5.7L (4 Bolt??).

If I could what else would I need?... new gaskets, rings etc?

    Thanks,
    Luke

It might be wise to have the motor disassembled first (if you have not already) to check what other damage may have occurred to other components, if any, so you know what you are up for on a rebuild. (I assume the cracked block was due to engine overheating).

I would check with some engine builders on where you might locate a new block at a fair price, (assuming they are still available new).

Nah I don't think its gonna be possible to fix it by welding it... does anyone know of any blocks new or used for sale? Or where and what company's do reproduction blocks coz my mate that work in holden spare parts says holden no longer produce them.

    Thanks guys

Try suburban imports Suburban Imports or the engine centre ENGINE CENTRE - HOME PAGE or JT american imports JT American Imports.

They can always import a second hand rebuildable engine for you. They are cheap as chips in the states because there are so many of them over there. The biggest cost is the freight.
