What is the diference between vy series 1 and series 2. i was told a series 2 cruize controll kit wont fit in a series 1. Any1 Know why
my series 1 vy wagon has no cruise control of traction control or electric windows![]()
i have a series 2,off the top of my head,series 2 got
:front power windows,
:cruise contrrol im guessing going by post above
:light in the roof with sunglass holder instead of the normal light in the centre,
:headlights had orange blinkers on the headlight itself, not orange globes with clear blinker on the headlight,
:different tail lights on the wagon,
:chrome strip on the bottom of the boot on the sedan
im not sure but i think the series 1 wagon missed out but the series 2 got metal strips in the boot where you put these tie down points into it and then you can actually strap stuff down
^^^ + Colour coded number plate surround on sedan.
'Ah well, I suppose it had to come to this.'
Series 1 executives had a black plastic surround, the higher models were painted. Series 1 to 2 there were also changes to the Berlina and Calais, Berlina series 2 got at least a new front bumper cover with driving lights, new rims, leather wraped steering wheel and satin chrome bits, not really sure about the Calais though. Also the rear number plate surround on series 2 Berlina I think was chromed. The S Pac differences included a higher level dash cluster and 17" rims. also the chrome strip on the bootlid didn't go onto s pac series 2. SV8 Series 2 also got a higher level dash cluster
ahh so the series 1 s pack has chrome boot strip..?
I have a VY Berlina Wagon Series 1, 2002 model. 275K so far and never let me down. Still drives like new. Just fitted genuine Leather steering wheel I bought on Ebay for $85 absolute bargain. Followed instruction to fit wheel I found here. Thanks Just Commodores!. My car has cruise control , 4 power windows, climate, alloys, good ride, good handling, armchair comfy seats, ample power, great open road cruiser. What more can you want. No plans to upgrade for the near future. Difference I have noticed with series two are front driving lights in bumper lower vent area, rear lights are clear lenses with coloured brake lights and indicators beneath, plastic surround around rear rego plate (this is chromed on the VZ I think).
i dont really know too much really lol, but i know the series 2 had the chrome boot strip thing, The series 1 executive models did'nt have cruise standard and the series 2 do..
the exhaust on the series 2 was different mounting to the series one aswell i think, and my series one also has no traction control, abs, power windows
I Have a Series 1 VY Exec Wagon and Has Auto Head Lights, Power Windows, Cruise control, Traction Control, ABS
I've got a 2003 series 1 Equipe, body colour coded mouldings etc.
My mate has a 2004 series 2 Commodore, and the only differences I can spot are the interior light is located at the front near the rear view mirror and has a sunglass holder, his has black strip body moulding things. His also has FE2 suspension I believe.
There were extensive upgrades in equipment levels when the Series 2 was introduced. Some of them have already been covered. The Execs picked up a few equipment items already mentioned, minor cosmetic changes and little else. The Berlina picked up a fair bit of Series 1 Calais bits. Leather wheel, satin silver interior highlights, foglights, 16 inch alloys (previously 15's), chromed rear number plate surround, black insert in lower rear bumper. The real money was spent on the Series 2 Calais. The factory decided to market it as a "European style sports sedan" instead of just a luxury model. The most obvious changes were:
1. 17 inch 5 spoke alloys (previously 16's) 2.New front bumper facia, upper and lower grilles 3. SS style lower body kit. In the case of the front bumper, the spoiler is moulded as part of the bumper facia. 4. FE 1.5 suspension, slighter firmer than standard, which was reported as being a better set-up than FE 2 for a car like the Calais. 5. Black headlining and trims. 6. SS style leather wheel. 7. Unique tail-light and rear reflector design, with the reflectors moved into the lower bumper and accompanied by a new design of bumper insert.
Just to confuse matters various limited production runs of Equipes, using bits and pieces from previous models, were released during the Series 1 and 2 production. Not sure, but there might have been Lumina's as well.
there were Lumina's and Equipe's both had 16" alloy wheels and their unique trim material, not sure about the rest of the extra's. The alloy's used were usually off an earlier model Commodore for example the series 1 Lumina's rims look like a VX S Pac and the Series 2 Equipe's look like VY Series 1 Calais rims. Don't forget the 25th Anniversary edition as well which has loads of extras and the rims are VY Series 1 Berlina.
I found this web site which lists what each model had fitted as standard equipment and it has a picture. It's not exhaustive and doesn't mention series 1 and 2 differences

Almost
Series 1 did not have any strip. Chrome boot strip on S2 was reserved for Exec, Acclaim, Lumina (?), 25th Anniversay (?) etc. The Berlina and Calais did not get the chrome strip due to the chrome number plate surround, S and SS didn't get it because chrome and sport don't really go together.
